    substrate for refugium

After sucking about a pound of ditritus out of my 60 gallon tonight, I was wondering if this could just be put right into my refugium. Perhaps just dumping the water with the finest particles out and scooping it right in?

    RO/DI questions

I made the mistake of leaving my ro/di on overnight. And also a few other times. I got the water bill. It was over $150. ouch

how long should i leave the table shrimp in for???

if the ammonia looks high enough, then you will have nitrite levels that are noticeable after 48 hours. Nitrates typically take much longer to build.

    I cant keep mushrooms. Why?

Even if the light was too much, they tend to move on their own to more "shady" spots.

    Hair Algea on coral

I have a chunk of coral that has been hanging on for some time now, a rescue that has gone into remission a few times. The last time the polyps went into hiding some hair algea took hold on it. Any ideas on how to get rid of it without harming the coral? The snails are doing a lousy job these...

    octopus..

This is my plan for a good tank So a 20 with a good top, and a sump with skimmer would do the trick. the problem I see is getting the water in out. I don't thing an overflow would work, but a simple covered pipe may be able to just let the water run down from the side, tilted slighy upward...

    octopus..

my biggest fear would be not having the water right and the thng just not wanting to eat and is stressed. New poeple sometimes dont learn quick how much water evaporates from the sump. Even with a lid on the tank(which none of my tanks do). Also people always go crazy over nitrate spikes and...

    octopus..

I just got a call from a new client who wants to set up a small octopus in a 20 gallon regular. At first, I said no. But I thought about it and it could be done if the top was fully enclosed, with a latch. And 2 holes were drilled in each side at water level, with one tube going down to the...

Best pump for Aqua c urchin?

Yeah, I am trying the same thing, I found a new Hagen thats 400gph this weekend and I threw it on. Seems better considering it came with a maxijet... Theres hardly anything to pull out of the water through so its hard to tell, theres no fish in the tank. 600 gph not too much? I would think so.

Best pump for Aqua c urchin?

So any other reccomondations other then a mag 5 or 7? that seems like a bit much. The tubing is tricky to reconfigure. I have to figure out how to put the larger pump outflow to the smaller sized tubing. I wanted to go the backpack route, but i had to go in sump, and I had so little room to...

Best pump for Aqua c urchin?

I have a urchin, not the pro, and I am about to upgrade the pump, but I am not sure If it can be "overpowerd" if I get too big on one. Does anyone know what might work best without overdoing it?

    Too much calcium?

I'm not so sure about the elevator refrence. Wouldn't it be more like the phonebooth example, one too many gets in and people just start gathering around outside..ect.
