Nitrates, well water and a octopus extreme 12" 300 skimmer?

I have a 135 gallon tank with around 2-3" sand, not sure of the pounds but enough rock to fill yet not packed so tight no water movement is had. I'm running a tunze 6100, vortech m40 i believe, dart closed loop and a sequence return pump. I bought a octopus extreme 12" 300 skimmer awhile ago...

    light requirements and substrate?

22" tall, 18" wide, 6' long sometimes the bulb will come on for a few seconds then goes off. i think its prob. wiring, but do to the fixture I think it's easier and cheaper in the long run to replace the light. I was thinking of going 250 due to the heat of the 400's and the elec. cost.

    light requirements and substrate?

I've got to replace my lighting. Two of the lights aren't working anymore. There is no reflective left on my light so i thought i'd either go T5 or the mini lumenbright 250's. From what i've read the t5's would only work for sps very very close to the water.

    light requirements and substrate?

i need to replace my 72" fixture. What lighting meets the requirements for montipora's, slimmer, etc. Below is some tank details and the substrate question/comments. I have 3 400W MH and 2 72" vho at this time. My tank is BB, 2 tunze 6100 and a dart on a closed loop, not sure of the flow...

    understanding water pump pressure?

it used to all go into my sump, since i made the holes into slots some stays in my tank now. It's much easier to clean it from my sump area.

    understanding water pump pressure?

I was thinking of a nozzle, but my husband said i needed to know pressure etc. He uses nozzles for spraying fertilizer with our fertilizer truck for wheat on our farm, so he understands more than me. I'm just trying to figure out what i can do with the pump and spraybar issue. I understand...

what works the best for you

i went BB a few months ago, took out the macro and mud in the refugium. Put the macro in my nano tank. Maybe I should add some back to the sump area.

what works the best for you

i'm reading and looking at pictures online, some use reactors, controllers etc. Others just a power head and kalk drip, homemade two part mix. I understand maintenance also would be a factor. How often you change water or bulbs. How long are your bulbs on? What wattage? I'm asking for your...

have you seen the italy's best sps tanks on reefcentral? Do you think their success with the papone mixture they feed would work bb?

    sand bed chemistry

my setup I'm trying to research this issue and decide which method is easier for me to maintain. I've seen the italy's best tanks and see sand, then again i see the march tank of the month (reefcentral) bare bottom...LOL Guess it depends on the individuals maintenance, that is why i'm asking...

    sand bed chemistry

I don't want to start the debate of bare vs sand bottom tanks. I'm wondering if having a bare bottom tank for sps is the best way to go. I know the sand helps w/nitrates, any other reasons why the sandbed is helpful for a sps tank? I probably haven't worded my question well, but if you...

    tiny gold maxima from LFS

size it is 1 inch and 5/8 using my cheater tape measure with all the lines labeled. I held it to the tank and looked through the water, but pretty sure the size is correct, it might be a little smaller, but more than 1.5"

    tiny gold maxima from LFS

I bought this last week at one of our LFS. What do i need to do for it so I can raise it big? I'm running 3 400w 12k reeflux bulbs 8 hours a day.

    vho bulbs

i read somewhere that you could use regular bulbs instead of vho, anyone done it here? I bought the reeflux 12K and don't really need the 2 72" vho actinics running too.
