Guide to Marine Invertebrates: Alaska to Baja California by Daniel Gotshall is also really useful, at least for id'ing stuff. Aquarium Husbandry of Pacific Northwest Marine Invertebrates by Roland Anderson (2001) can only be acquired through the Seattle Aquarium Bookstore. They'll make the...

Puget Sound Cold Saltwater Tank Design

I would recommend Dr. Roland Anderson's Aquarium Husbandry of Pacific Northwest Invertebrates (or some title like that). You can get a copy only through the Seattle Aquarium (or was it the Vancouver Aquarium), but it's only 10 bucks post-paid. A very good buy.

Depends upon the type of starfish. Henricia sp. would be good candidates... many others really are not worth it if not in special tanks (with fish, large anemones, crabs, etc.) because they are relentless predators. They'll even eat barnacles. Anemones are generally safe from predation...

Cool... not only do male barnacles have the biggest stuff of the animal world, but it is prehensile... impressive. I've got to say again, I really like this set-up. Have you posted any info or pics of this tank on Reef Central?

You can get some awesome looking and practical substrate from some of the cobblestone beaches there. Nice big round smooth (but somewhat flattened) chunks. More like small stones than big gravel. There is some jet black granite up there that looks just great for aquascaping. More pics? How...

I really like this tank, the set-up is cool, the critters are cool. Is your Zostera growing?

Sweet..! That should look great, especially an oversized one that brings down huge surges like we see in the PNW rocky shores (dropping somewhat below the uppermost rockwork). I always thought some surfgrass would look awesome periodically waving in the strong water water movement/hanging off...

    question for the SCUBA divers

I believe the website was www.oregonreef.com, there will be some specs there for you to help you determine what you would need. Most of his stuff is from WA... and it's pretty easy to collect there, with a fishing license. OR is actually a bit toucher about that, but also possible.

    temperate stuff

I know it's been a while since I've used this thread, but has anyone found any other suppliers for New Zealand/South Australia livestock? I just stumbled across some of their models of strawberry anemones and was blown away. I'd post pics, but there are way too many awesome shots-- I wouldn't...

Hey, Randy. How is the rose anemone (the one I traded you for the strawberries) doing? Got anything else interesting in there these days? Is the tank still at Saltwater Fantaseas? I will be in the area on the first weekend of October and I would have an opportunity to trade a thing or two...

    temperate stuff

Come on, Steve, of course I already knew about your suite, it's legendary! Good luck on your next project. Hey, I think I read that you didn't know of any domestic temperate livestock suppliers-- if you have yet to run into them, check out www.gulfofme.com for some cool North Atlantic stuff.

None taken, Sid :). I am interested in maintaining an aquarium at a temperature between 55F and 60F. Any info on stuff kept near that temp range would be welcome, however.

    temperate stuff

Well, I use the term "coldwater" out of convention, really. It truly is a relative, if not useless, term. "Temperate" is most appropriate, technically, and doesn't even imply cold but, rather, moderate temperature ("polar" is cold, but again, it's relative-- a polar organism would say those...

Does anyone here maintain coldwater marine tanks? Do you know of good photos of any? I'm interested in whatever might be available, whether it's from Tasmania, South Africa, NE or NW United States, Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, etc. I'm especially interested in sources of quality retail...
