    Major panic here...

water evaporation can occur that fast??? usually it takes at least a good week for less than a 1/2 inch to evaporate; but could be, I'm not the expert here. As long as the tank is ok in the meantime, I'm ok.

    Major panic here...

My husband set-up a sump system last week; he's away this week and yesterday when I returned home from shopping the tank was filled with bubbles and air and I noticed the section of the sump where the pump sits, the water levels are very low. This happened when we were balancing the...

We're read... we studied, we did our homework and still...

Was busy doing a water change tonight; and finalizing the sump set-up... will try to get a picture posted somehow this weekend. Thanks again. So far, the only solution to avoiding the "toilet flushing" sound is to remove that cap altogether; was told that this was ok... keeping my fingers...

We got everything working fine except for one final thing... when we remove the overflow control rod, it goes quiet; as soon as I put the seal cap back on (like the instructions say, there's this huge noise from the water gurgling back into the return). What is the purpose of that overflow...

I don't suppose you have a picture of your sump available........ if not, no worries, just thought I'd ask (or if you know of a website that has pics of these, it may help us to make sure we have the right set-up). Thanks again for all your help - you guys are GREAT

We're read... we studied, we did our homework and still...

The return pump we're using is 500 gph - we have the flow happening no problem now. But, a new problem has arisen! The siphon tube 'cap' is on tight as the instructions indicate, but the water level doesn't go up past the cap and it makes a lot of noise. With the flow going full tilt, I've...

In comparison to the ones we've seen, the in-take seemed to have a faster flow than ours once we got it working the same at both ends. Not sure if that makes sense??

Thank you! It's a Tidepool bio-wheel filtration (but we're not using the biowheel); we have the flow levelled now; but we both feel it's too 'slow'?

We're read... we studied, we did our homework and still...

... I'm ready to throw this 3 year old tank out the door. After 6 months of preparing for this day, we have a sump all ready to go; but we are having problems getting the levels of flow working in sinc. In the overflow tank, adjusting the overflow control rod is doing nothing; it says pulling...

    Question re: brain

I apologize for not being on here the past few days; had a wedding in the family; will try to get a picture downloaded (I thought I was technically inclined until I tried to post a picture before and it was too large); will play around with it and get a picture posted soon. thank you!

    Question re: brain

We recently purchased a red-green brain; it's doing very well (water perameters good)... it looks like it's starting to split right down the middle. I searched all kinds of sites and can't find anything on this subject - do brains 'split' like mushrooms? It looks like it's going to do just...

what's the deal with these clowns?

We love our clowns... they have character, they love to cuddle into anything that flows and our are gentle; the one nips on occasion but nothing painful by far. Their sharp colours and how they interact I think are what's so endearing about them. Kids love them too (they appear so playful and...

    Two questions

We recently bought a plate coral and for the past 2 weeks since we got it, it never moved. Last night I noticed it moved about 2 inches over. Do these things actually move on their own? (dumb question, don't laugh). Second question. Is it normal for the coral that builds up on the glass to...

    Hi all!! Need Advice.

My husband is the 'main guy for our tank' and he was gone for one week; I love the saltwater tank and all the fish; and we spend hours just staring at it. I must say it was only one week in my case, but it was hard to remember the morning routine given everything else I do. If my husband were...

Setting up my very first saltwater tank, help?

We're no pro's here but here are two excellent books that have been really good to us through our learnings: The complete encyclopedia of the Saltwater Aquarium (by Nick Dakin) and The Conscientious Marine Aquarist, by Robert M. Fenner. I can't say enough about these two books.
