Thanks to both of you, but it doesn't look like either one. In the next couple of days if I can get a good pic I will post it. Anne

    They are like slugs??

Thanks for the link. Finally think I have found out what was crawling around in my tank. Couple of hitchikkers that have gone without ID. One was a common chiton and the others were common limpets. Hope these things are not pests of some sort. I have not tried to pry them out of my tank...

    saltwater rotifer start

My husband basically built a box out of egg crating and nylon screening on the inside. I poked some bigger holes in it so that the bigger pods could get in and out---but my hermit crabs, fish, and other critters cannot get into it. Basically it is a "safe house" for pods to live and multiply...

    Fish info

Thanks, Nikki and Krish. Still having trouble finding one of my fish. I picked up a Dragon Goby yesterday and can't find it. Would also be helpful if I could find out what diseases and infections that these fish are prone to as well. Already found more info than going through the google...

    Fish info

Does anybody know of a website that lists all of the marine fish that are kept in an aquarium along with all pertinent care information? Thanks, Anne

    saltwater rotifer start

Are these something you can keep in a pod motel in your tank? I have read that many fish eat these things...just curious. Anne

    calcium test kit help

OK, this may be a really dumb question---but could you supply a link to the same exact kit that you have??? Anne

    calcium test kit help

You will also want to check your Magnesium levels as a low mag level will make it very difficult to get calcium levels up. What salt mix are you using?

    calcium test kit help

Personally I use an Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Ca test as well as their ALK test. Yes, you do have to count drops--but no multiplication involved. They have a chart in their instructions that tells you the number of drops and then what the level is for that number of drops. Easy test to use. Anne

    Merry Christmas Thread!

I agree, although, when I say Happy Holidays--I mean it as shorthand for Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Sorry this is a day late--but been going in circles doing water changes. BTW-please do not let your fish or corals drive after drinking. :) Anne

    Black Sea Cucumber?

____________________________________________ At this point I am measuring it the only way I can. My IO hydrometer (trust it more than a deep six swing arm) I do have a refractometer on the way. Black Cuke is doing well--considering continued elevated ammonia levels. YES, I know that I...

    Black Sea Cucumber?

_______________________________________________________________ It has been a week or so since I have seen any spots. They have been at hypo levels for 3-4 weeks. Watching them closely and doing daily water changes. Anne

    Black Sea Cucumber?

OK, sorry to virtually drop out on you--been very busy. Found out that I have ammonia being produced in my tank so I have been busy doing water changes. Did at least 15 gallon change out yesterday, 11 gallon change out today (plus tearing my penguin and bac pac apart to clean), will do 6...

    Hydor rotating deflector

Has somebody every tried putting one of the hydor rotating deflectors on a zoo med power sweep? BTW-I had to basically go about putting it onto the maxi jet pump on my own as I could not find any english connecting instructions. So far so good--disappointed because it is sticking so far out...

    Black Sea Cucumber?

Update-- OK Steve--what could staying near the surface of the water indicate???? I very gently (holding my breath the whole time) coaxed it off of the wall of the aquarium and put it down front in the sand this evening. It has stayed there happily eating sand. I have also seen it poop out...

    Black Sea Cucumber?

Thanks, although I am not sure it helped all that much at this point. I did know that one of the major problems with the sea cukes in general was getting enough food--thus the concern because he was not on the sand. This morning I intentionally dropped a bunch of shrimp and formula two pellets...

    Black Sea Cucumber?

OK, probably wasn't too smart to do---but I bought a black sea cucumber this last weekend. I was told that it was a sand eater (which I thought would be a good thing given my tendency to overfeed)---but so far hasn't spent much time in the sand. Most of its time has been on one wall or other...

    Disaster...Again

I am sorry to hear about that Nikki. Hope all turns out a little better for you. Anne

    Red Slime

OK, you can try kents Poly Ox--you dose it about 3 drops per 10 gallons so be careful with it. Also, when you dose this (2x daily) try keeping the tank dark for about 48 hours (cover it if you have to). This is what I did--still fighting the bleeping stuff--but it has been kept in check (so...

got live rock for x mams gift...what do I do now!!

I would not wait till morning as the ammonia can be very toxic to the poor critter. If it has survived this long--give it the best chance you can by getting it into relatively clean water. Anne
