What would be the gate charge for us Portlanders to attend ?

    Stange centipede?!?!?!?!

Yes they do. I suggest looking at night with a flashlight as they are nocturnal....searching for anything that their voracious appitite can find.....ricordea, zoos, really any soft coral, cats, dogs, small children....etc.

    Stange centipede?!?!?!?!

Sounds like a Eunicid....like mine was....

    Puget Sound Reef Tanks

Here are a few biscuit pics....I don't have any sun star pics handy....I guess I need to take some. Not a biscuit...but, cool nonetheless...

    Puget Sound Reef Tanks

Deception Pass is not a reserve (at least where we were) to my knowledge....just a tricky dive. The currents are very strong through that narrow pass and a chase boat above is a must. Here's my latest addition....these are not out of the Sound; but, supposedly, they can be found in the Sound...

    Puget Sound Reef Tanks

Yes, that's the only Puget Sound fish that I have. The fishing, shelfish, and seaweed collection licenses can be found on the DFWL website. I think I paid around $80 for all three and it runs from Mar06 -Mar07.

    Puget Sound Reef Tanks

Yes, there are reserves.....so, you have to check each dive site. My dive books plus local dive shops are also helpful in determining the reserves. Permits can be obtained online (personal use only...no commercial). Each part of the Sound has different stuff.....some of my favorites are...

    Puget Sound Reef Tanks

I feed them the same stuff that my warm water tank gets.....mysis, scallop, squid, and krill. The thing is though.....since nothing is photosynthetic......I have to feed alot. Each of those anemones will eat a whole scallop or shrimp every other day.....and cyclopseeze is fed to the small...

    Puget Sound Reef Tanks

IMO....cold tanks are more expensive to run than a fish only system (only because of a chiller).....equal to running a regular reef.....and cheaper to run than an sps reef. I would avoid glass and go with acrylic since acrylic is more insulating. My tank has never sweated a drop....and it's over...

The boxfish are near full grown now. They're about 6 or 7 inches. Strawberry anemones are hard to find since they are best found in high flow areas. I've been looking in Puget Sound near Anacortes.

The temp depends on what you're keeping. My Australian critters would be OK in 65 (but, that's really a max that they naturally would see).....but, my Washington critters would think they were in Vegas.....so, 58 -60 is a happy medium for what I'm keeping. Yes, I just a few T5s for my viewing...

The rocks are from the Washington coast....and yes, everything has to be hand fed. I'm only trying to keep critters that can be fed cyclopese sized food or bigger.

    cold water reef pics

My stock comes mostly from southern Austraila and some from off the Washington coast. There is a collector/wholesale outfit in Tasmania that I went through. They usually supply the public aquariums....but, are open to shipping to the general public too. I think that I was their first hobbiest...

There are about 20 catalina gobies in there now...just not pictured.

    cold water reef pics

I've been playing around with a cold water reef for the last 10 months....and I thought that I would show you all a few progress pics. I actually have two small cold water tanks.... one is about 120 gals and the other is about 40 gals. The tanks, and their common sump, are made from 1" thick...

cold water aquariums, keeping them cold

Nikki....it's all about insulation. I not sure where the cut off thickness would be....you don't want a cold surface hitting warm moist air. When you place your hand against my cold tank, you wouldn't know that it was a cold water tank....until you put your hand into the water.

cold water aquariums, keeping them cold

Yep....that's my baby....I did it all myself. I really don't post that much as you can tell from my post count being 13 and registered over 2 years ago..

cold water aquariums, keeping them cold

It's really not a different approach....most cold water tanks are very basic compared with our sps reefs. I consulted with the owner of Pacific Coast Imports. He used to be the main supplier of cold water specimens for many public aquariums....but now, he is focusing his business on the warm...
