My 90G starphire/rimless cube build thread

I did get an extra impeller to experiment with so I'll see what the mesh can do. I have a dwyer and kill-a-watt as well, I'll be sure to post up my results.

My 90G starphire/rimless cube build thread

I think the Eheim is like a $300 upgrade or something, which I didn't feel is worth it. Everything I've read through says the Sedra pulls 1000 lph without any mods, which is more than the Eheim, and up to 1400 lph with mesh. I mean, this is only a 90G tank and the AS-200 is complete overkill as...

My 90G starphire/rimless cube build thread

I've really heard nothing but good things about the WM skimmer. I wanted something that would be plug and play since I don't want to have to tweak, trim, etc, to get good skimmate.

My 90G starphire/rimless cube build thread

Here is a quick update. I finally finished up the canopy and got everything stained/wired. Here is a quick shot of the canopy: I heard back from Joel and the tank is getting build right now and we are still on schedule for the 25th. Also, I decided on the skimmer. I ordered up a Warner...

My 90G starphire/rimless cube build thread

Everything is moving right along. I have the canopy all framed, trimmed, and mostly stained. I also have the wiring all squared away for the canopy as well. I'm still wondering if I should add some vents in the top to allow some of the heat to escape. Does anyone have a link to some nice vent...

My 90G starphire/rimless cube build thread

I was able to make a little progress today. I didn't like the PC actinics that I got so I will be using my URI Super Actinic R. The good thing is the bulb w/end caps is less than 19" so I can keep the canopy nice and compact. The final dimensions are something like 20"x21"x10.5". I understand...

    A video of my Vortech

The Vortech has a such a dispersed flow that the sand doesn't move at all. I had to be careful how I aimed my Seio's (I had two 820's before this) but the Vortech will put out 3000 gph and not move a single grain of sand. I'm quite impressed with it.

    A video of my Vortech

Yep, you can adjust the frequency of the pulse. Every tank is going to have a different resonant frequency in which the wave will start, it all depends on the dimensions. You just keep turning the dial to find the sweet spot and the water just starts moving like that. The best part is there...

    A video of my Vortech

I got a nice wave dialed in and thought I would try and take a quick video to show the amount of movement from just one of these on my 65G. Almost makes me wish I had a tank full of softies to watch them sway in the current, lol. I only have a crappy webcam on my laptop but you still get the...

My 90G starphire/rimless cube build thread

I sold off one of the RBTA's but I kept the other which will go into the new tank. I sort of cherry picked my favorite stuff from my 65G that I'll transfer over. I'm sure my frogspawn will enjoy some more room. Yep, that was probably me. I'm glad to hear it is doing well for you. If it is...

My 90G starphire/rimless cube build thread

Adam, Thanks for that link, I'll go through it and see what I can come up with. Here is the thread from my current tank, though it hasn't been updated in a VERY long time. Just about everything has changed other than the original lighting and stand/canopy...

My 90G starphire/rimless cube build thread

So I guess it is time to finally get a thread started about this. I've had my 65G up and running for almost three years now and it has been great. I've always drooled over those cool rimless cubes and I finally found a builder (Joel from Waves Marine in Portland) who will build a 30x30x24...

    PSAS Event - SWAPMEET - August 23rd 2008

Finally something in my backyard! I will have my full 65G setup for sale but not quite soon enough to have it there. I'll still try and drop buy as I'm sure I can pickup some odds and ends for my new tank. Great idea for an event.

In Wall - going for it! - seeking your ideas/feedback/advice

The tank is looking great Ben, tons of new growth from when I was there last fall. And I see some new fish as well.

I'm starting to run a bit thin with what's left to process. Here are some more pictures from their store. And a few of their SPS frags:

    Best LFS for Tangs?

It's reasons like this why I will continue to shop there. I bought a fish a while back that ended up not making it. Not really any ones fault but Cy gave me store credit to replace it. I don't think any other store would have even thought twice about it.

    Suggestions on lighting suspension kit

I was planning to use something like this to hold my canopy up. It can hold 55 pounds and only costs $20. http://www.amazon.com/Racor-Ceiling-Mounted-Bike-Lift-PBH-1R/dp/B00006JBL3/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1216251276&sr=8-1
