need replacement pump for Octopus 150

Luke, the OTP PW's aren't coming out for all 3 sizes are they? I thought it was just for the 3000

 No, I still haven't been able to find that cord. I haven't forgotten about you :) If I can find the cord, I do have pics of a 200 in the 10g tank. I knw there is a cord at the shop, so I'll get it tomorrow.

11" x 15" is PLENTY of room for the 200. and, yes, the OTP is made by haliea

Yep, I've had one running in a 10g tank!!!

Yep. they are the same, people have reported that the MSX draw slightly more air though.

What size system are you putting the 160 on? The 200 would be a better choice if you've got the room in your sump. The 160 is designed specifically for people with limited sump space...and the 200 is only $10 more :)

WOW, just saw your list Mike...impressive :D Are any of those studies done specifically in the marine aquarium industry? And what you were saying about not seeing the stacked foam head in the cone by watching the video...well, video definitely does not do these justice.

Okay, I understand that there is LOTS of science and research around foam fractitioning for industrial use...Oil refineries and wastewater treatment facilities are 2 of the big ones. But, in those industries it is clearly understood "what" they are wanting to accomplish/remove in fractitioning...

In the end, what really matters, anecdotal or not, is the state of the fish and corals that we are all keeping...so, whatever gets the job done! I'm in the same boat as Luke though...My wife DOES NOT want a 6' tall skimmer sitting in the living room ;)

Cone Skimmer thread, up for Discussion!

...I was merely "amen"ing lukes statement of "...And if it smells like sewage, its pry best to be out of my tank :)", which I might steal as a quote for my sig  Although, To me this discussion has digressed away from cones into a discussion on the benefits and downsides of the 2 skimmer...

Mike, Marc, Luke and Nick...thanks for allowing me into your conversation! It seems like there are a few minds here that know skimmers...Maybe WE can actually accomplish something here

Nick: Not to be argumentative, but personally I do not see the math that Mike has posted as "fact", but anecdotal as well, and outdated to some extent. IMO, there is more anecdotal evidence to support the "high air, short and wide, single pass" skimmer philosophy than there is anecdotal...

Cone Skimmer thread, up for Discussion!

There are only 2 ways to increase "dwell time"...HUGE skimmers, and recirc's with slow flow through! But really by Mike's thought process, a recirc with a slow through rate would not be ideal either, only a really large skimmer will get the job done. But, to counter that, I've read of people...

there is already a diffuser in the skimmer...and there is ZERO turbulence!

Are you saying that "quality" skimate should be clear?

need replacement pump for Octopus 150

It can be done, just not easily...the PSK2500 will push 30scfh into the skimmer, the OTP2000 is pushing around 8scfh into the skimmer. Really, the neck of the 150 will not handle the air of the Sicce. Also, to do it, you need to drill out the stock intake into the skimmer and replace it with a...

 jnarowe's skimmer may be ugly, but man is it efficient and effective...pulling 2-3 GALLONS of nasty funk from the water a day!!!

Mike, Don't take any disrespect in this ;) To me, the "laws" you are talking about are definitely not "LAWS"...they all appear to have come from Escobal, who did some pioneering work in skimmer design and though, but I would say that a lot of what He wrote could be argued strongly against these...
