    Installing MH's

All right that is what I am doing. I am also mounting 2 PC case fans on opposite ends of the hood with each one moving 68cfm at a mere 24db (dead silent). Hopefully this will be enough to dissipate much of the heat.

    Installing MH's

OK my new Metal halides came in today and I am getting ready to throw them into my hood. I have a pair of 175w bulbs with spider reflectors being driven by IcaCap ballasts. The hood interior is painted white with a coat of exterior primer and a topcoat of exterior white semi gloss enamel. I...

    Lighting Questions

What bulbs were you using with the 175's and how deep was the tank? I too am interested in saving in power and heat but I dont want to be disappointed with the performance of the 175's.

    Lighting Questions

Good idea Ill give it a try. I have spent the most of the last 2 days at manhattansreefs.com and thought if I went with the 175W lights I would use the Iwasaki 15000K as they have one of the highest PPFD values ran on IceCap Ballast. I like the colors I have seen in the 15000K area. But I have...

    Lighting Questions

OK so I have some questions regarding MH lighting. I have built a DIY hood that is 62x19x14. My tank is 26" deep. I plan on having a 2 to 2-1/2" sand bed. The hood itself overlaps the top of the tank by 2 inches which will be just below the water level. So I figure that I will have a 22 inche...

    MSX/SWC Question

I have ordered an MSX/SWC Xtreme 200 Skimmer and it should be here on the 10th, however I want to get my sump and plumbing done sooner. Different websites list different foot prints of this skimmer. Does anyone have this skimmer and if you do, what are the dimensions of the footprint. I would...

    Padding under the tank?

OK I know I have read this in many different threads but I am having a hard time finding them again. I have a DIY stand and a 120 glass tank. Looking under the tank I have noticed some gaps in between the tank and the stand. The gaps are no bigger than 1/16" and are probably smaller since I can...

    Refugium/Sump Questions

OK so I am getting ready to pull the trigger this weekend and purchase the remaining equipment for my sump/refugium. I have a 120 Gallon (60x18x26) glass aquarium, and a 40 gallon breeder for the sump/refugium. I understand that the target flow rate is 3x-5x of total system water through a sump...

    Overflow Questions

All was had at Home Depot thanks to Gift Cards Thanks for the props. All the materials were bought at home depot. It is wrapped in 1/2" birch plywood on the sides and 3/4" birch plywood on the decks. It took visits to 3 different Home Depot stores to find good sheets that had not been scratched...
