Don , if you see my "last" post as bashing then perhaps you are not aware of the entire thread. there was no bashing intended and never will be from me. I was taking a firm stand on his behalf, he is causing himself a lot of undue grief, I realize what he is going thru and offered help, It may...

    Probiotics, What?

That did it ! now I'm going to get a big head. krish , when you say getting too deep for you that disturbs me. we do not want to get too deep for any body, if we do that what are the benefits of the post. how can we/I lighten it up a bit? (and do not diminish you intelligence by saying it is...

daytona no more po4 stuff. you were provided with clear remedies along with step by step ways of carrying the remedies out, you had a problem accepting what was offered, you ran a poll that backed up the remedies then proceeded to do what you wanted anyway. now that is your right. It is your...

how quaint, this is becoming the rugie thread, perhaps I should pull in my lips.

    Probiotics, What?

probiotics, what MIkeS, well spoken! I conquer. I have a problem with all of the mechanicals in use on most reef tanks. a huge percentage of reefers are brainwashed by the vendors and mfg of this type equipment and that is a travesty. we are spending hundreds of dollars on mostly junk. I have...

no! they are about equal, I suggest you not acquire any more animals until your tank is squared away. the new algae will retreat when the clean up efforts kick in, continued cleaning on a regular basis is in order. in that the red cyano and hair utilize the same nutrients it was inevitable you...

    Probiotics, What?

mojoreef you indicated several times that the die off of the overabundant bacteria would be putting the nutrient(s) that they consumed back it to the water, this is not realistic, even tho they would be present in the millions their microscopic bodies do not contain the nutrients. "they are...

    Probiotics, What?

mikeS, great analogy and I agree with it, reflecting on mike's input he indicates a complete ( or near complete) raping of the tank by the mechanical apparatus. that is like throwing away the baby with the bath water. I agree that both can work together but I am not certain it would be parallel...

Mike my new post was en route while yours was being posted so my statements may seem arbitrary

    Probiotics, What?

joey, as for the no3 spike, what were you measuring, when the test kit is used it can (with different equations) measure no3 or total nitrogen if you get a reading from total nitrogen it is not an accurate reading of the no3. sometimes probiotics are supported in their container by a food...

    Probiotics, What?

Mike, you say in your post "I see that whole process as just keeping your reef in a constant state of bacterial flux, *I agree with you 100% that statement is factual* Then you state "just higher than normal" *I do not agree!* it really is not known what is normal. I see it as beneficial...

xenia will do poorly with out consistent iodine supplementation.

    Pulsing Xenia shriveled up

matts125 hey! sorry to step on your toes about the iodine besides being iodine it is a time release and I feel it as that leaves us with not knowing how much is in the tank at any given time , so I figure it would be likely to be over dosed

    Pulsing Xenia shriveled up

seachem reef IODIDE is the best, iodine is not a good choice for reef, there is a big difference tween the two. plan on giving away or selling all those snails you are getting for the hair algae as after the algae is gone ( and it will be) they will starve to death as will the lettuce nudies. I...

    Pulsing Xenia shriveled up

xenia do not eat phyto. yes let a portion of the the power head discharge blow on it as long as it is not too close.you want strong water movement but not strong water shear. blowing (with a baster or pump) off the areas where the algae is growing. hi po4 and no3 = hair algae the white bead type...

xenia like high nutrients, they seem to do well in high flow areas and in close proximity to the effluent of a pump. if you have such a place try moving it there for a while. they like to have their polyps in good motion. xenia are a weed coral usually will do well anywhere.
