    Pinched Mantle

Travis, Over the years I have found ou that keeping clams in a dominated clam tank seem to work better than in a full blown reef. IME! Had a 40 gallon clam tank for about 2 years with nothing in it except 2 fish and a few rics and never had a problem. Go figure! :)

    Pinched Mantle

Nikki, I would continue with the treatment and WC for a bit longer but maybe dose less of the medication. Now I have something else to consider, someone in Canada wrote to me that has been following this thread and said that he has never had a clam in his tank, and has been up and running for...

If your clams are not pinching anymore, then I would not continue the treatment. Nikki, clam # 1 look awesome as far as mantle but hard to see the color washed out effect. :(

That is what I am thinking, maybe the medication effects the zoo. Pinching is gone and I hope the color returns. Extending my photo period every day till I get back up to 10 hiours.

    Pinched Mantle

We noticed today that since we have been medicating, that the croceas seem to be a little washed out as far as color. We have had them under 250 DE HQI. Back to the drawing board.

Travis, That I can not answer. I would suggest doing some water changes but at this point I have not idea.

    Pinched Mantle

Nikki, Keep treating till the pinching is gone. I went a few days longer than what they suggested as far as medication.

Well we know how to cure them but the parasite is coming from oversea suppliers. QUARANTINE

Am happy to report that all the Tridacna croceas that we had in quarantine that was infected with protozoan is now gone!!! YA! Will provide some other observations and thought when I get all my documentation togeather and sorted out.

I really screwed up (clam meets superglue)

That doesn't sound good my friend. :(

    Jumping clam

What you are seeing is the adductor muscle and yes it will close and open. :) If that is what you are referring too?

    Pinched Mantle

Nikki, They look a lot better than the first pictures you took. You have to remember that those clams have been through a LOT! I can't see that any of the mantle is retracted back into the shell so it may be ok but if the mantle starts to retract, then I think you know what is to come. :(...

    Pinched Mantle

Thought I answered this question but I guess I did not. SORRY! When I do a water change, I add the full dose like I did when I first started dosing the medication. Was told that the metronidazole will break down, so I use the full dosage for the 60 gal q-tank after doing water changes.

Nikki, One of the two that I sent did have some small curling at the end of the mantle but no sign of protozoan. So to answer your question, there could be some damage. Like most mantle damge, most heal in time.

    Pinched Mantle

Lastest report. Sent a few more clams to the lab on Monday that we have been treating with metronidazole and there is not signs of protozoan. One of the clams they had to sacrifice and take some tissue samples. :( This parasite has been on many clams that have been shipped to many dealers...

Nikki, sorry for being tardy in replying to your question but this is what I was told to do. Water change everyday and replace the same amount or metronidazole as it loses it's streight and breaks down. So far, I have just a few croceas with edges cured up a little but no pinch.

    Pinched Mantle

A little update. My 23 clams have been in a 60 gal q-tank for 8 days now and all but 2 look great. The 2 are not pinched but show a little curl at the edge of the mantle. I do a small water change daily and dose met. everyday and have good water flow to insure the clams get the medication...
