    Dipping small clams for pinching

I would wait a day or so then re-dip.

    Dipping small clams for pinching

I would attempt to do another dip first. Get yourself a turkey baster and blow off any micro-bubbles and the muscus, if there is any on the clam. IME

Nikki, I would suggest doing just what you are doing. I have no idea how long it takes to break down but would think that doing the water changes should rid most of it. If you are concern about getting some Metronidazole into your display tank when you place the clams back into it, I would set...

Good. :D They said they found it on and around the mantle. You have some very strong clams to go through what they have and still survive. Now I tell my clams if they don't behave, I am going to send them to Nikki. :D :p

We are treating 12 croceas in a 60 gallon q-tank and after 5 days of medication I can see a 60% improvement. One a few clams, there is not sign of pinching but the others are looking better.

In our systems where we can have anywhere from 30- 250 clams in a system and a few start to spawn and someother follow suit, then it can really foul the water. The eggs is not the issue but the sperm can really mess things up, even to the point of clugging up a skimmer. :( If I had a small...

In my case I had no choice, the water was really foul. I don't think many will have a spawn like I did as I was dosing fairly heavy.

After a spawn, it is always best to do a water change and add some carbon to help clean up the water. The medication could have triggered the spawn or possible the major water change I did after the 3rd treatment.

Stress will start a spawn. I am sure the medication caused some sort of stress.

Nikki, Just wanted to give you an update. have been treating with Metronidazole for a few days now and some of the clams are looking better but this morning some started to spawn. If this happens, I would suggest doing a 30% watrer change but wait until they get through with the spawn...

Just a fast post before getting out of here. :) The water did kill the protazoan but if it came back then it it didn't get it all. There was no protazoan it our water but we have about 1200 gallons and do water changes all most everyday as when we ship clams we are using the water from the...

ok, this is what I have found out. The lab has used metronidazole with success and the dosage they recommend is 1 tesp = 5 grams so in our quarantine tank (60 gallon) I will use 5 grams. They said that it is reef safe so that is why I am going to dose my quarantine tank first before doing my...

When I mentioned FFE. It wasn't their warehouse but where the clams were kept before FFE bought them for re-sale. I do see the micro bubbles and mucus on the derasa. They will secret the mucus as a way of trying to rid the parasite.

I think you are referring to some clams that Flying Fish use to carry before closing their doors. Remember that well. I know for a fact that was a bad batch of clams that was being housed at an underground wholesalers and once I saw that place, I wouldn't have bought the batch for 20.00...
