the good the bad and the ugly of power compacts

What kind of corals do you plan on keeping? Are the PC's going to be your main light source? IMO, you may want to look at T5's or VHO's before you get PC's.... MikeS

    Adding New Live Sand

Maybe a bit, but you are still going to get a release of phosphates for a while after adding it. Here's a thread I started on RC back in '04 on the topic, it explains it a bit better...read the first page at least, becasue at first Ron and some of his crew say the sand can't be saturated, until...

    Adding New Live Sand

I agree with Don, nutrients are going to be the culprit here...Adding the new sand probably did a number of things. First, it buries any detritus and microfauna on the existing sand surface. Second, most new sand comes to you literally saturated with phosphates. I'd bet that if you check your...

    Drāno?

I've always had good luck with plain old lemon juice...I inject a small (0.3cc) amount directly into the aptasia using a tiny syringe normally used for insulin shots. It shrivels and dies in a matter of hours. Lemon juice is safe and cheap, and it works when used in this method... MikeS

    live sand or not

I'd say it's just as safe or unsafe as other playsands...looked at their site, most of what they claim is just a marketing ploy it looks like... this is from the MSDS on the product.... MikeS

    kelvin ratings affecting corals,lets talk

Photoacclimation deals more primarily with changes in light intensity from one tank to another, rather than shifts in specturm. Degrees of Kelvin describe color of light, but not actual intensity. After a month, your corals should easily be photoacclimated to your new tank, I'd say the problem...

    A question about r/o systems..??

RO units can be set up many different ways. I have mine set up to a spigot in my laundry room, with the waste line run out to my lawn (except in the winter when it would freeze). The nice thing about hooking it up to it's own spigot is that it isn't a permenant setup, it can be disconnected and...
