    Sustainable aquarium keeping?

While I am more of an ideologue in this subject, I'd be interested to see what you can pull together. Indeed, we need more people like you to invent new ways to save our hobby energy and save the reefs some stress. I look forward to seeing more DIY and tank build threads. :)

    Acrylic Thickness

There is a pretty wide eurobracing on this tank. I'm not quite certain, but it looks like there may be stress marks along the corners of the tank. There are thin threads of what look to be uniform scratches on the sides and rounded corners of the tank. Is this normal, or should I be concerned?

    Acrylic Thickness

I have a 90 gal, 25" high acrylic aquarium. The thickness of the walls is 3/8" and looks to be sturdy enough. Would there be a way to reinforce the structure of the tank, or should I just leave it as is?

    Turbo's eating coralline

Watching snails eat is one of my favorite past-times, but I may be a simpleton. It's odd to hear about turbos eating coralline. Are they just eating the new, thin growths, or are they also chomping away at the thicker calcifications on the rocks? I'm talking about the really thick stuff...

I need help my trigger is on his way out!!

Well, prodding the little guy is only going to stress him out, exacerbating the situation. So let him just chill for the moment. If his fins have turned white and are falling off in chunks, then it sounds like it could be a nasty infection. You may have to put him in a QT tank and apply some...

    Red Algae

Good luck with your endeavors in removing this nuisance. I'm just getting over a cyano issue. Weekly water changes, cutting back on feeding, and a longer photoperiod in the sump helped to cut down on their nutrient availability. You can also get a turkey baster and squirt the cyano off of...

    Who is bigger?

Ouch, how'd you lose the discus? From my understanding, discus keeping and marine husbandry are somewhat on the same plane. Be sure to get an RODI unit and save yourself some headache! :)

    Who is bigger?

You should check out Denny's Pet World in Redmond/Woodinville. They have a mated pair of adult maroon clowns and they are HUGE! If you have a single maroon clown and decide to add another later, the original occupant will likely become the dominant and, therefore, female. They get about six...

    NW Breeders?

Does anyone know if there's any sort of breeders organization in the Northwest? I'm looking to get more hands-on experience in this field and would love to volunteer my time at any sort of breeding facility. With news reports of oil spills spreading across the Atlantic, I feel that hobbyist...

new to reeding, lighting help. and more.

Something to keep in mind with the 'biological filtration' is that you will have hundreds of little organisms which all need to feed. This can include brittle stars, sponges, copepods, feather dusters, or even miscellaneous coral polyps. These take particles of various sizes, but it's better to...

    Everybody Eats Guppies

I bought some guppies as a last-ditch attempt at getting my lion to eat. The lion had no interest, so I decided to feed the anemone in an effort to mix up its diet. The guppy ended up getting away, only to be devoured whole by my 1/2" long talbot damsel. I sat there, mortified, as I watched...

    diseased fish need id

Is it just one eye? I would test your water parameters and do some water changes. It's a good idea to have a quarantine tank set up any ways, so that you can treat sick fish on the fly and watch new fish so that they don't introduce any diseases. Lee has a few stellar articles on the topic in...

    Help with baby fish please

The Complete Illustrated Breeder's Guide to Marine Aquarium Fishes is an excellent all-around reference for breeding marine fish. Mr. Wittenrich goes into great detail on everything from coaxing a spawning pair, setting up a hatching and growout system, to feeding and raising larvae. It's...

    SPS Noob

Pocillopora and montipora are pretty good for beginners. Having an LPS like frogspawn or trumpet coral would be a good start, as they tend to be an indicator for changes in water quality and can tolerate a wider array of lighting intensity and color.
