to buy or not to buy

IMO that is not enough light for that tank. VHO is better and MH is best. You should not be putting your bare hands/arms in the tank anyway who knows what is on your skin that will kill or damage the corals or the fish. Use gloves or tongs.

    Ultraviolet Sterilization: Yes/No

OK the UV filter is up and running. This took almost 2 hours as I had to clean the skimmer and remove all bio balls and drain plate to put pump under them. I have the cord and 1/2 inch feed hose going under the sponge that is dividing the bio balls and the skimmer and return pump area. Once...

    RO DI add-on

the 2 carbon pre filter stages will remove the chlorine. RO's always have carbon, and the carbon removes chlorine and chloramine. A DI alone won't touch those. RO's also remove organics that DI's let through. Finally, the DI's will be shot very fast by running tap water right into them. RO's...

    RO DI add-on

Sorry but you guys must have some fantastic water up in Seattle area. The TDS meter does show the user when it is time to change sediment or carbon filters of the unit. For 2 years now it has let me know (I change mine when it reads 4 to 6 TDS) and only have changed the sediment and carbon...

    Water Quality

I say don't take the chance as all have said the water quality of a well or tap will very from day to day, it may be ok one day and not the next. Use RO/DI water and sleep easy at night.

    Pop Eye

Well I can only speak from personal experiences. When my main pump was causing micro bubbles into the tank and it took me a couple of days to trace it down I found that my flame angle and coral beauty had one eye each having pop eye. I never medicate the tank and once i found the cause of the...

    Pop Eye

POP eye is caused by water quality issues. Or micro bubbles in the water.

    any suggestions for RO units?

Ditto on the www.airwaterice.com typhoon III unit has flush system and pressure gauge and a TDS meter and auto shut off valve and everything to hook it up to the supply line.

    any suggestions for RO units?

I think you are a little confused here... The RO membrane is what rejects the water not the DI filter. Rejection rate is around 1 gallon produced to 4 gallons wasted. This is normal for ALL RO units. Your best bet is the combo of the RO/DI water unit as combined it should produce 0 TDS readings.

    Oceanic Switch

Scooter, It's all what the brand name wants in the salt. When milk plant makes the milk they are all different and made to specs that the brand name company wishes. Who knows maybe Oceanic will taper down the mix after awhile. Get all the reading now and we will see later on what they have changed.

    Oceanic Switch

I stopped using it. Not for sure if it was the salt or something else but on the third week I noticed some of the corals looking sluggish. Since I stopped and replaced with IO (15 gallon change) the corals are looking better. I may try again on down the line but for right now I will wait till my...
