    Removing Gravel = Less Maintenance?

For the area at the gravel line use a toothbrush affixed to a wooden dowel or acrylic dowel. You can shape/form the toothbrush handle with heat for the correct angle. It's smaller, easier to control and will reduce the likelihood of scratches. Then finish with the magnet/cleaner of choice in the...

    new tank nitrates....

You first had substrate bottom then went to bare right? Was there a nitrate issue before you removed the substrate?

    Coralline Turning White?

It dies. It grows back. It may not be anything more than that. But then again better to check your parameters.

sound off on the best way to run calcium additions on a simple system

The "best" way just might be the most "simple" way. Add Calcium Chloride as needed.

    1000 Gallon

The best place I've seen locally is down in Sumner can't remember the name of the joint. But I think they're about 45-50 bucks for the 160gal mix...

    got gurgling to stop but....

If your fitting from the bulkhead is a 90 maybe change that to a couple 45's or some formed or flexible tube to change the flow at the elbow...Might make a more gradual turn=less noisy???

    Dragonface pipefish troubles

OOPS! You're right I did read that incorrectly. OK. Here, I'll fixed it for you. Regardless of the number you missed my point completely. I said ANY. Pipefish need a substantial amount of healthy live rock to thrive and since your tank is too small and probably newly set up ( I say this...

    Dragonface pipefish troubles

I think your tank is too small for ANY Pipefish let alone 3. Stick with fish you can feed with store bought or hand made food...

I got a spotted mandarin is my tank enough?

It takes more than live rock. It takes a healthy population living in the live rock. The Mysis shrimp you see won't be what the Mandarin is after for the most part. It'll be after the small copopods barely visible to the naked eye and after only 13 months (unless the rock was very mature) the...

    Yes, it's Swiss chesse, but...

Looks Good! I think the only to find out is to hook'r up and watch the flow. My only question would be the reduction of pressure from the pump to the ends of the spray bar. With the same sized holes throughout you'll lose pressure. I think I would have drilled smaller holes toward the center...

    How often should I replace?

There is no way to gage how long a bulb will last because it all depends on how long you run them. Another factor that causes premature bulb failure or light reduction is heat. In other words if you run your bulbs on a lighting cycle 4hours a day less than the next guy, they'll last longer. The...

How do I get rid of Aiptasia

I'm in agreement with DonW here. Using animals as a remedy for nuisance anemones is probably not the best way to go. Syringes with plastic tips work best IMO. No metal. Kalk paste works well also because it's readily available, cheap and easy to use and you're probably dosing with it anyways...

anyone had experience with adding sand

Done it many times. Use a funnel and large diameter hose. Lower the hose and funnel first down into the existing sand to plug. Slowly add the sand by the cup full until settles on top of the old sand. Slowly spread as desired. Helps if you rinse the sand in some of your tank water first...No...
