    Any Ideas what this is?

The white things might be brittle star arms.

    Any Ideas what this is?

If you're talking about the brownish colored one sticking up from toward the bottom, it appears to be a spaghetti worm.

    Quieting down a noisy return

Fill a ziploc bag with sand and use it as a pad for the pump to sit on.

    Uh Oh, heater just broke....

Suppose it wouldn't hurt, but I'm not sure if it's necessary. I've had the same thing happen (more than once) and never did a water change. Just make sure you get all the little bits and pieces out; could damage a pump, or a fish that tries to eat it if it somehow gets sucked up into the return...

    Why have snails?

Because you like waking up in the morning to find a coral or two laying "face down" in the sand instead of in the rockwork where it had been for the past two years.

    Best water if no RO

I went for years on the water from the Glacier water machines in the grocery stores with no ill effects. It always tested at or about zero ppm with TDS meter. I think it's an RO/DI filter inside the machine, but I'm not sure.

    ECO Aqualizer

This question comes up every few months it seems. There ought to be a sticky at the top of the "New to reefkeeping" forum that just says in giant bold letters ECO AQUALIZER SUCKS

    acrylic tank not fully supported

Is the area that's not supported cut out to accommodate bulkheads in the overflow? If so I don't think it'll be an issue; my setup is like that. If you're talking about having for inches of the tank hanging off the back or a side, that's a recipe for disaster.

    My New 120 gallon tank

What size Iwaki is that (flow rate) and what drum are you running in the OM unit? Nice looking sump. I used to have an IAP sump that was absolutely awesome; they did great work back in the day.

    meet our new friend

Cool deal there! Blennies in general, I think, tend to be quite photogenic and not ones to shy away from the camera/front pane of glass.

    My New 120 gallon tank

Congrats! Looks like you're off to a good start there. are those returns coming out of the bottom plumbed into an OceansMotions unit? Also, how about a brief rundown on your equipment.

    Auto top off

http://www.fishbowl-innovations.com/product/levelController This is the unit I've been using for a few years now, Works great. No screaming alarms to annoy/scare the heck out of you in the middle of the night, just a red light that comes on to tell you your resevoir is low. Two float switches...

    Red Velvet Algae

I agree; I've got a bit of that stuff in my tank and it doesn't seem to spread or cause any harm. If, of course, that is the same stuff that's in your tank.

    Awesome Tuamota Maxima Clams

I do believe that the first photo is one of the best clam pics I've ever seen. Good shootin' Brie!

what is best pump to operate closed loop for a 180 gallon

Sequence Reeflo Dart. I guess it will sort of depend on how many outlets the CL has. I've got four outlets on the CL on my 120, the water is flowing through two of them at a time, and find that the Reeflo Snapper is plenty enough. But your tank is bigger.

    pump question

My $.02, PanWorld 50PXX. Really well made pumps, and quiet. That is assuming you want an external pump. Submersible, I'd go with either a Mag12 or an Eheim 1262. You won't get quite the flow out of the Eheim, but they too are well made and quiet. If price is less of an issue on the skimmer, you...

    calc

You'd think that there would be precipitation if it happened suddenly, or if the alk was out still in tolerance.

    Sump blowout.

    Yep, sorry Gordy but I suspect you're S(with a z)OL.
