    Red Cyano?? (Asparagopsis)

That type of media is exactly what you need. The set up of the reactor is optimum for this type of product since water must flow through it to work properly. Unless you can reduce the amount of organic (through heavy skimming/water changes) and inorganic (via the GFO) forms of phosphate...

First "Real" test results of my tank

There an air gap between the plunger and the liquid in the syringe. The tip help offset for that air gap.

That should read hydrated CO2 equals Carbonic acid. :)

Green Star Polyp coral...have a question...

Try to add buffers in the AM where possible. It will help reduce the overall swing in daily pH. It's not crucial but a good "safety" habit to get into. If pH tends to be normal-high, it keeps it in the same daily range.

    Red Cyano?? (Asparagopsis)

If you have zooxanthellate inverts, do not use Kent's PO4 sponge, it's aluminum based. Get a granular ferrous oxide (GFO) based product instead. Aluminum based products can cause bleaching in corals/clams etc. The algae you have is a red hair variety. Zebra turbos (like <<here>>) will help to...

is there such a thing as TOO MUCH KH?

Actually CaCO3 depositing organisms can't utilize Ca++ above 360 ppm so anything between that and 420 ppm is just fine. Personally I stick to about 400 ppm. Cuts down on heat precip with pumps and the like.

    ick question

When you transfer the fish you leave behind the Tomonts and any unattached stages. An uncycled tank is of no concequence. The water is not the problem, only potential ammonia. That is easily controlled vi a miriad of product and/or water changes. If your sure your treating C. irritans only...

    ick question

Slight misunderstanding/communication. C. irritans can be transported on/in any wet. It must have fish present to continue it's life cycle. Since we do not know every step in the capture/transportation/LFS, we assume there is at least the potential for these problems and isolate them until the...

Maroon Clown Upside Down and Not Eating :(

The Kanaplex will work fine for the infection. Add the recommended 1 scoop for each 5 gallons of water volume. Please note, not tank capacity. Kanamycin is fairly stable in SW (upto 48 hrs) so you will need to re-dose on the third and six days. Be sure to do a good sized water change before each...

    newborn bamboo shark

The "marble" is just what's left of the yolk sack the shark fed off while in the egg capsule. It will eventually fade from the pup.
  11. S

    ick question

Exactly correct. It doesn't matter what it is if it's wet. Dry items are not a concern. C. irritans cannot survive if air dried. You would need 2 QT's minimum. Once a fish is added to the QT, three days are allowed to pass. The fish is then transfered (no net) to the second QT. The first tank...

Maroon Clown Upside Down and Not Eating :(

An internal parasite or bacterial infection would be the most likely culprits. I would lean mainly towards bacterial. I would still treat for both as I suggested earlier. Can you acquired the medications I recommended and have you reduced the salinity? Both need to be done very very quickly...

    ich problem......

First and foremost, are you sure this fish has Cryptocaryon irritans? Just because a fish has a spot or two does not mean it has a parasite. Observe and confirm before you treat. If your sure then you need to treat. http://www.petsforum.com/personal/trevor-jones/marineich.html Since this tank...

    ick question

Good advice above. If someone has Cryptocaryon is in their tank, it was put there. Sounds harsh but it's quite true. This as well as any other parasite is easily prevented from entering your main display system by the use of a quarantine system. They are not just for fish though...

    Blue-jaw trigger not eating

Are you absolutely sure the pH, salinity and temp where a match before releasing the trigger? Yes! Just be sure to rinse several times before you air dry and use an unscented 5% bleach 10:1 is plenty.

    Straight RO vs RO/DI water

Actually, you'd be surprised what the RO filter will miss. Many things can and will pass through it. The DI is the best way to ensure problems do not enter your system. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-05/rhf/index.php#6

can i get some kind of toby puffer for 90?

It will pester slower moving fish (nips fins a lot) as well as the shrimp. Toby puffers have great personalities but are not well suited for tanks that contain any kind of sessile/mobile invertebrates. As far as the fish, it can/will nip fins but it is pretty much compatible with the species...

Maroon Clown Upside Down and Not Eating :(

Are those the numbers from the main system or the newly set up QT? If not the QT, please post those numbers. It helps get a clearer picture of what's happening. Was the fish added directly to your main from the "uncycled tank" you acquired it from or to the current QT? Is the fish eating, if so...

    Black Barred Convict Goby

There is very little info on this guy out there. Priolepis nocturna is primarily a zooplankton consumer. Meaty foods with a small (20ish %) content of algae based foods. Will spend a lot of it's time in whatever cave/dwelling it claims. It can also be very aggressive towards other small(er)...
