    Can Fish Choke on Food?

We had to pull a fish out of a lionfish's mouth. Talk about a tricky operation. But we did it because lionfish too will choke to death, big piggy's.

    So Confused...

Idgy, that really doesn't gain you the benefits of anything just creates the problems. I am a huge dsb fan and yet in my sps tank after looking and studying I plan to only have half an inch of sand in the bottom. . . If I have that much. Deep sand beds are wonderful and they look wonderful but...

Coral of the Week ~ Cespitularia ~

Anthony I wondered if you'd comment on something regarding these that I recently read. I'm sorry I cannot provide the citation at the moment. (if you could see my bookmarks) But the general gist was that xenids needed high bioloads to survive successfully. In this thought, the person felt that...

    ZEOvit

Mike one last question if you don't mind. Do you or anyone else for that matter try to set your tank up with certain locations in mind for things like salinity and additives? For instance, the red sea which has a higher salinity and different chemicals in the water than say the carribean...

    Coral Quarantine

I'm anxious to hear his answer on this as well. I have a quarantine tank set up with power compacts but when the coral needs metal halides what do you do? Also, I do dip my corals with seachems reef dip.

    Creating A Biotope

When I was in Japan, looking at tanks, they had what I would call dedicated species tanks. Tanks set up for only certain species with particular substrates, water currents and more specifically temperatures. They had dedicated spotlights to help certain corals do well. Is that a biotype? I...

    Creating A Biotope

Some people have a dedication that I only hope to achieve. Did I mention I had to trim my hair algae only yesterday? Well except for the amazing fox face assistance. Does anyone know of a site that just has pictures of biotypical areas? For instance, diving pictures of the hawaii, australia...

    Caulerpa Toxicity in perspective

I agree to a point Nikki, its just that each biotope is a part of the whole. I'm not advocating growing the grasses within the tank but instead its the idea of a separate refugium that like a lagoon feeds the other parts of the ocean. Hey its just a thought.

    Caulerpa Toxicity in perspective

Okay okay I just had to stick my two cents in. Mike, you made a point earlier about how there are no caulerpas on a reef. BUT there are grasses and caulerpas on lagoons. My point is pretty simple and one that I think most people are missing. The ocean is made up of all its parts. When we do...

Question about Epsom salt and magnesium for Mojoreef and others.

Nikki, I haven't done a lot of research on this, usually when you do a treatment with the epsom salts its very short term. Three days or possibly six days at the most and the recommendation is to always do a partial water change at the end of treatment. My guess is that the partial water change...

Question about Epsom salt and magnesium for Mojoreef and others.

Hey Terry, I know that epsom salts are used to relieve the swelling and pressure behind the eye. Usually if there is the possiblity that the fish has some type of contusion and not necessarily if its was cause by a parasite or by infection. A single eye afflicted usually indicates a simply bump...
