    That is completely false. There has to be a ground probe to make the GFCI work. A GFCI senses ground fault current. If there isnt a path for that current, the ground probe, then the water remains energized even though a GFCI is used. The other mistake is to use a ground probe and no GFCI...

    Thats how I did it. Only I made my base rock with cement. There was a few pieces of dead live rock from a previous tank. The beauty of doing it this way is you can protect the new live rock as the base rock is already cycled. The critters on the new live rock may never see an ammonia spike.:)
