    fish in overflow box

It is also not necessary to glue the PVC components of a Durso.BY not gluing them ,You are able to take it apart and clean it. In this case, you can take the elbow off and unscrew the standpipe and any fish in the overflow will travel to the sump for rescue.

No coralline alge on glass tanks?

I also agree that coraline algae seems to spread more on acrylic tanks. It also does not like strong MH lighting long term.Nice picture above.

    175w vs. 250w MH lighting

I am not familiar with that ballast on E bay. However if you would like specific recomendations you can E mail me or inquire on the Reef Exotics forum. Thank you

    175w vs. 250w MH lighting

zeltar also has a 5' tank.I personally think that you will be much better off with 250's over 400 watters with a 24' high tank. You will have plenty of light and not have to deal with the excessive heat the 400's will produce.

    175w vs. 250w MH lighting

Keep dreaming. You will have to buy a new ballast, but one new 250 would be a safe way to go.The point being,if you buy one 175 watt ballast now to complete a three bulb scenario and down the line you see that 250 watters will be better for your SPS and clams; you will have to buy three new...

local source for dolphin am3k couplers

You can make the turn very easily if you use a short piece of 1 1/2"PVC about 3 " long. When the pieces are glued and assembled the PVC elbow will meet up exactly at the coupling and will be the shortest way possible. The offer still stands and standard snail mail is OK.

    175w vs. 250w MH lighting

I like the way you think.:) That is a good suggestion for your tank.On a six foot tank the more intense light in the center would be more noticable. On a 5' tank it will not be as noticable. You can place more light demanding species in the center of your tank. This way you can always upgrade to...

    Iwasaki 250W bulb

The position of the nipple on the Arc tube will have no effect on the bulb not lighting. The PFO EYE ballast will run only Iwasaki Bulbs.Mh ballasts can not be started and re started like incandescent or Florescent fixtures. They need 3 -5 minutes minimum to restart and multiple on and off times...

You can use the standard split fitting and glue a section of PVC directly into the fitting and add a 90 deg pvc elbow. Are you looking for one fitting or two.If you need only one I have an extra one and you can have it for free.Let me know.

    any suggestions for RO units?

Sorry, I haven't had a chance to reply;but fishermann had my back.:) I live in West Hempstead,Long Island,N.Y. and the water could be better.Another problem is rust in older plumbing.I use a Spectrapure R.O./D.I. unit and in addition to the standard pre-filters;I have added a .35Micron...

    any suggestions for RO units?

While it is true thar R.O units have a high waste water to pure water ratio(4 to 1).D.I units do not waste any water. A D.I. filter is the last stage filter before the water enters your system. As Nikki stated above they are a great addition. There are many who also use two D.I. filters to...

UV strerilizers in Reef tanks & Closed loop ?

I have been keeping marine tanks for about 25 years now. And, I have not used a U/V light for the last 14 years and I don't miss it. But that's just me.The water quality achieved today by using L.R. and/or L.S., a Refugium with macro algae , protein skimming, carbon(sparingly), and R.O./D.I...

    Electricity close call!

Scooterman Glad to hear that you had a GFIC installed. They are a necessity in this hobby. I also use GFI circuit breakers in applications where I can not easily get to an outlet; such as behind my tank. I also use a diatom filter from time to time to clean detritus off of my L.R and find it...

    Help!!

I agree with Alice above. There is no easy way out, when you have a large amount of Valonia. Emerald Crabs or a Sailfin Tang will not be adequate. You will have to physically remove each bubble with tweezers. It will be a tedious task, but it will work. Start from one side of your tank and...

    repairing glued PVC

When you add salt to your water, the eventual salt creep might solve the problem. However, considering that there is no live stock in the tank;I woould cut out and re-do the connection. Always use PVC primer and plenty of PVC glue, and remember to turn the pipe to spread the glue evenly. It would be...

Just hopped over from Reef Central.I also believe that they are in the family sabellidae and are a type of tube worm/feather duster and are harmless. However, I too will look for a better picture.
