    First sump design

So after numerous hours reading and learning about sumps, I put together a draft of my sump's design. I thought I would post it on here so you guys could rip it apart. I got most of my ideas from Melevsreef.com. Specifically this design: Melevsreef.com | Acrylic Sumps & Refugiums Should come...

    Eric & Becca's 180 build

Wow, that's beautiful. I'll have to stop by and drool over it in person.

    Thrawn's planning/build

Alright, after nearly a 2 month hiatus, the stand is finally underway. It's been an interesting couple months, I couldn't find the time or the money to get this tank up and running but hopefully it will be pretty smooth sailing from here on out. I know you guys like your pics so I will try to...

    Thoughts on an octopus tank

That was quite a read. Thanks for the info! So, I'm kinda leaning more and more towards just doing the reef. Now my question is, how hard would it be to take a set up reef tank w/ sump and plumb another tank into the sump in the future? In case I wanna try the octopus sometime down the...

    Thoughts on an octopus tank

Thanks for all the info! Currently, my filtration is a crummy little Fluval canister filter, but I will be building a sump and get it running long before I add anything to the tank. As far as benthic or cryptic zones, would you mind providing an example? I'm not sure what those are.... Thanks...

    Thoughts on an octopus tank

Guys, I did not make this thread so people can argue about who knows more. Please, could we keep a little more on the friendly side? Would a 90 gallon would be two big for a bimac? The care sheets I've read have all mostly said a 55 or bigger. Luckily it already has water and a couple fish...

    Thoughts on an octopus tank

Wouldn't you run this risk of having it cave in on him if it was with rock? Seems like it would be better to have a bunch of PVC and stuff like jrgilles suggested since it wouldn't be as heavy and able to crush the octo. Just a thought.

Rock and sand so I can get this tank going!

90 gallon. Any suggestions on how to secure the sponge? Obviously a simple rubber-band isn't going to help much in this situation.

    Thoughts on an octopus tank

This will be the first big tank of my own. I used to take care of that saltwater section in Petco, which I know isn't exactly a gold star to most people, but I learned a lot from doing it and tried to do the best I could with the resources I was given. I've also maintained a couple nanos in...

    Thoughts on an octopus tank

Hmm, I suppose so. Still in the early planning stages for it so I haven't ruled out anything yet. Suggestions?

    Thoughts on an octopus tank

I've got a clown and a chromis in there now. If I do get an octopus, I would wait at least 3 months or so before getting him. That would give me time to get the sump installed and make the sure the tank is fully matured and I have all the parameters under control.(the tank has been set up at...

    Thoughts on an octopus tank

I definitely agree with that. Working at an LFS, I've obviously lost fish before. Not a fun experience, especially with wild caught specimen. I certainly wont keep something that I don't think I can provide a healthy life for.

    Thoughts on an octopus tank

Definitely NOT getting a blue-ring, Al. Even if they are cute little guys. A two-spot's life-span is between 1 to 1 1/2 years. They are somewhat known to bite when they are young, but their venom is about the same level of a bee sting. I've kept/worked with a lot of snakes, so I'm pretty...

    Thoughts on an octopus tank

I have considered that, Eric. That's why I originally decided to do a reef in the 90. Might still go that route, just kinda brainstorming. As far as not seeing him, I would get a bimac, or two-spot, which is one of the few diurnal octopus species Octopus bimaculoides (Bimac/Two-spot Octopus)...

    Thoughts on an octopus tank

Anybody here keep them? I've always wanted one and I'm setting up a 90 gallon right now as a reef, but I'm considering making it into an octopus tank instead. Does anybody have experience with them or opinions? I've done quite a bit of research on them so I'm aware of a lot of the...

    natural sea water vs. homemade

I find it funny that you live on an island surrounded by one of the most beautiful chunks of ocean and you still use a salt mix. It makes sense, but still pretty funny.

    Eshopps skimmer

I didn't realize they have a hang on the back model haha. Thanks for the info, Eric.
