    Wanted: Koi

i have a 12"-14" koi that i need to get rid of. my pond has a leak and i need to tear it down completely. i don't recognize your town name so i bet you are on the west coast. i guess it wouldn't work. 2000 miles is a long way to go for a free fish!!

    my first reef system

the only changes are the addition of 2 rio 2500's for more flow. i use b-ionic and i change 25% every 2 to 3 weeks. other than new bulbs, that's about it.

    my first reef system

update it has been over a year since i posted any pics of my tank so i have a few to show you. i measured the toadstool in the center of the tank today. it is 14" across and 16" high. it kind of dominates the tank when it is fully expanded.

    Mantis or Pistol

it took me a year to find my pistol shrimp. it was so loud that i was sure it was a mantis but i finally found it by shining a flashlight from under the tank. it had created a cave under some lr and made tunnels similar to what an ant farm looks like on the bottom of the tank. every time i hear...

    sudden death

i had a foxface that went from fine to dead in 15 minutes. i also had a lionfish in the tank. i did not see the "sting" but i must have just missed it because i saw the fish start to fade color and slowly sink and lay sideways and then it was over. i don't know how old the fish was. i had it for...

what are ur thoughts on teh berlin turbo

i have used one for a year and a half on a 125 and it is ok. not great and it does need frequent cleaning to keep it skimming. my other skimmer is a seaclone 100 on a 55 and it works pretty good. i bet 2 seaclone 100's would out skim a berlin turbo.

I lost my first fish today....

if it is hiding you might want to wait before you start moving rocks.you might accidentally crush him.

    Adding a Shark.....

you have completely misjudged my input. it wasn't me who suggested you take the shark back. I was insistent that the fish will not survive in a 75 with an undergravel filter and a hang on power filter. you have said that you since have put a protien skimmer on the tank which will help but i...

    Adding a Shark.....

yeah i have made impulse purchases.i have made mistakes also. i have never bought a fish that will grow almost as long as my entire tank. i also own test kits so i know when my water chemistry is deterirating.if knowing the condition of the water in my tank is "micromanaging" then i am guilty...

    Adding a Shark.....

how big does a bamboo shark get? everything i have read/heard about sharks is they need a large tank(depending on species at least 180 gal). it might be a good idea to start checking water chemistry because you have just put a large strain on your bioload. those triggers could nip at the shark...

most humane way to kill a suffering fish?

put it in a light socket and turn the switch. if it is good enough for john wayne gacy it is good enough for a fish.

    Recommended Protien Skimmer

if you are on a budget, I have had good luck with a seaclone 100. i have to empty the cup every other day and so far it has been maitanence free. some people have had problems with them but i haven't seen it.

most humane way to kill a suffering fish?

angelscrx, if it was a plastic bag full of air and everything around me was water i wouldn't be too scared!

    bi-colored blenny needing a whoopin

if you can't get him out of the tank, a lionfish will.

    demise of peppermint shrimp

peppermint maybe i am a little sadistic but nothing works like #1 b-ionic in a hypo. it practically kills on contact and because it turns white upon contact with water, it is easier to see where you are injecting it .

    Stopping Star Polyps

I have a plastic glass scraper that i took the pole off of to do the job. get the purple mat or they will be back in no time. i have a few spots that i scraped down to rock that have stayed bare for a month but they always spread back. try not to damage the polyps when you are removing them...

    demise of peppermint shrimp

peppermint shrimp I have had one shrimp go missing for 4 months in my 125. i was sure it was eaten by a lionfish but 2 weeks ago it showed up under a pagoda cup coral where it used to hang out. if you have a lot of hiding places, it still might be alive.
