    New to the Seattle Area

Thanks a lot! It's a work in progress but as it continues to grow out it will look better and better. I'm still rocking the miscellaneous frags look, can't wait for some real growth. Right now I'm battling cyano but unsure of where the nutrients are coming from... i suspect my filter sock...

    Pod Population

I've also heard mixed success with ORA's mandarins around their alleged guarantee to eat prepared foods. Just as hit and miss as with the wild variety, and you get to pay a premium.

    New to the Seattle Area

I couldn't be happier with the Seattle area. Always something to do and I got to take advantage of the 18" of powder up at Stevens last weekend which was a great way to start the season off! Here's the most recent FTS and some closeups - it's coming along!

    The conch lives.

Similar experience on my end. They bury themselves for an indeterminate amount of time and then suddenly decide to cruise the tank and bulldoze anything on the sand bed...

    Beautiful chalices!

Think my RBTA is a rainbow

Looks pretty rose-y to me but time will tell as it continues to grow. Either way, it's a nice looking 'nem!

    Crazy Algae Growth

An increase in lighting could result in an increase in algae only if the requisite nutrients were there. Some potential sources: overfeeding, TDS, die-off, new tank, etc. Fix the root cause or this will continue to haunt you. Now, effective cleaners: nassarius and cerith for detritus, hair sea...

what causes a established tank to cycle?

To directly answer the question: if adding live sand, there's liable to be some die-off causing a cycle. If adding 'dry' sand there is nothing inherent to the added sand that will cause a cycle but if too much is added at once it can cause problems with the existing bacteria populations, hence...

    You've piqued my curiosity: pics?

Just get the lights! The rest of that is optional at first :)

    Aquanauts 250 Deep Dimension Tank...growing since '99

Looks fantastic! Thanks again for the piece of the beautiful tort. And by the way, the harle's are doing great. They've spawned 3 times already in the short period I've had them!

    Once more into the breach...

Good luck! Tech M has always proved successful for me when battling bryopsis.
