    Quarantine tank

I would clean the tank as mentioned, and then if you plan on getting any more fish in the near future, keep it setup using the same filter and raising the pH back to 1.025 (or whatever you plan to have in your show tank). I would only drop the pH at signs of infection to reduce stress...

    Return pump for smaller tank

Not familiar with Eheim but I am familiar with the other two. I have found that GenX suck with head pressure, but run relatively cool. I have found that the mags run much better with the head pressure (again, relative), but have a bad reputation for running hot. I had no problem with noise...

    Whats your worst Reef Experience??

Went on vacation in Florida and left my tank for 3 days. I came home to a blown circuit breaker and 100% losses. A snail clogged my U-tube, pump kept pushing water from the sump, water on the powerstrips, etc... So, thankfully, the circuit did in fact trip. Sadly, I have not setup a tank...

This will drive you nuts, try it!

These games are the only reason to keep a 300 mhz computer around...

    Automated Aquarium Systems

We recieved it as a donation before the new year so the previous owner could get a nice tax write-off. I have not set anything up, but have looked at the software. Apparantly it takes someone pretty knowledgable in visual basic to actually set the software up to do anything. Unfortunately, it...

    MH 911 call!!

Any water hitting the bulbs? It would be a strange coincidence for it to occur simultaneously if it were due to water hitting the bulb, but certainly possible. Take er easy Scott T.

    Automated Aquarium Systems

Does anyone have any experience with this controller/monitor? http://www.automatedaquariums.com/ We just got a unit donated for the vet school reef tank, but the provided software is a nightmare. I am also interested in general setup, issues faced, etc... Just a shot in the dark and any help...

Max Espom dose per gallon per day?

Hmmm...perhaps oceanic, even with its ALK problems, is more feasible than IO in my situation... Its always a matter of picking your poison... Many thanks guys! Take er easy Scott T.

Max Espom dose per gallon per day?

Yeah, Nikki, I had seen that and to be honest, that is what prompted the question, only because it alluded to the fact that a bolus of epsom should not be added at once. THe SO4 was my concern, so I suppose the MgCl will be what is needed. I guess my next question (and I suppose I could find...

Max Espom dose per gallon per day?

I am experimenting with increasing magnessium levels using epsoms. I don't want to overdose as to screw up ionic imbalance and add too much SO4. Can anyone reccommend a max dose (in grams, teaspoons, whatever) per gallon per day in water that is at a sp. grav. of 1.025. Thanks Scott T.

    lighting suggestions please

Personally, I would go with 2X400W MH and perhaps only 220W VHO using the bulbs you described. Of course, you can certainly get by with what you have got... Take er easy Scott T.

    What's Your Sand Depth?

DSB ranges from 4-6", variation due to current in tank... Plan on replacing about an 1" or so every year, depending on how well I think the tank is doing. Take er easy Scott T.

    Being Conscientious

I take the term as being pretty literal, i.e. using your brain, understanding that the hobby does not occur in a vaccum, and making educated decision re: livestock, methodology, etc... I hate to make it sound so simplistic, as it is not, but that is sort of my cliff notes version... Take er...

mistake you dont want to admit

See my clam thread... I droped a 26W PC setup w/ballast in my refugium, and of course, instinct told me to grab it in the water. I did, and am glad I lived to tell about it. One hell of a shock... Plenty of others on a more minor scale, although most are more because I am accident prone, not...

I really screwed up (clam meets superglue)

Yeah, I was pretty mad at myself (quite an understatement). The glue never really stuck to the tissue (other than the foot), but was caked in a large area of the clam, resting on the mantle. The clam just would not reopen, acting as if the glue was irritating it. Because it was closed up, I...

I really screwed up (clam meets superglue)

Well, woke up this morning to my cleaner shrimp picking at the clam. The super glue was irritating the mantle, but probably of greater conserquence, had covered the byssus. It was pretty much a no win situation... And here I thought that the aptasia would be harmful to the clam... Take er...

    Too fine of sand?

Agree... Normal, can be solved with patience, a power filter, a skimmer, etc... Once a good bacterial flora starts to develop on the sand particles, it will become denser than water. Take er easy Scott T.

I really screwed up (clam meets superglue)

Just got a new clam (maxima, approx 2-3") that had a few aptasia on it. I got out some superglue to put on top of the aptasia in order to kill them (this has been succesful in the past). Well, it turned out that I was using normal superglue, not the gel. Thanks to gravity, some of the super glue...
