Do You Drink the RO DI water

Does it cost to obtain FDA approval? I wonder if it is a manufacturer cost issue, or if the items simply have never been submited for approval. Could just be the usual FDA backlog or a hiearchy of importance. I don't know how the bueracracy works. I doubt it is a "consumption" issue...

Do You Drink the RO DI water

Well, check out their message boards, you might see a familiar topic posted by a familiar name :) LOL While I often notice glitches in their "scientific process" and reasoning, it is something that is actually easy to accomplish. However, I don't see their ratings getting a boost from such a...

Do You Drink the RO DI water

No worries Steve... I have been told it is an urban myth, with which I disagree as I think it is physiologically possible, just highly unlikely. Sounds like a job for the myth busters. Take er easy Scott T.

    Water changes..Weekly vs. Monthly

Thanks bud, always glad to see another fan out there (you would be suprised at how many are in the hobby...or maybe not, perhaps because of the obssesive nature that both reefers and deadheads share). I can't imgaine never doing a water change. I would feel like that was flirting with...

Do You Drink the RO DI water

I have had some disagreements with others regarding this... If you run a marathon, I flat out would nor reccomend drinking RO/DI water a) because it tastes bad and b) I really feel like it can soak out some needed electrolytes. In normal day to day life, I doubt it would one would incur much...

    Water changes..Weekly vs. Monthly

I was always religious about the weekly water changes. However, if you have just a softy system, I have seen some incredible growth with less frequent water changes. So, I agree with Nikki that it might depend on what your goals may be. However, as a general rule of thumb, I think weekly...

    Which RO/DI Unit to buy?

Interesting, I have the typhoon from airwaterice.com and have loved it. I had a good experience with their customer service, so no complaints here. These days you can find comparable RO/DI units all over the web, with just the basics, for $100 or less (check ebay). Obviously buying from a...

    leaking tank?

DAP silicone Make sure it is without the microban...I know a good 50-100 reefers that are currently using this stuff. No deaths yet ;) Take er easy Scott T.

    Sumps

I don't mind anyone disagreeing with me, in fact, I think the original poster needs to see/"hear" it. I too am going on experience, and in my opinion, the fewer moving parts, the better. I have seen flooded livingrooms with both, most of which are the result of user error. Both have their...

    Sumps

Just some differing opinions on the CPR: Overflow thread Another Thread Having only used an amiracle for 4 years, I can only speak to that. However, I have heard horror stories with the CPR. Not to mention it is much more expensive. You can make anything work as long as you recognize all...

    Sumps

I will be the voice of disent. I disagree. With a simple overflow, you are working with physics, something that is a constant and will not fail as long as no snails, macroalgae, etc... get in the tube. Use an aqualifter, this has the potential to fail because you are bringing electricity into...

If you had it all to do over again.....

Plenty of things: Gone with a 90 or 75 instead of a 55... Drilled the tank instead of using a hang-on overflow... Not used a plenum, but instead just run with a DSB... Never gotten a maroon clownfish, or my biggest bully, a red-lipped blenny... Never have introduced a wild zoanthid colony...

    Analytical Grade Additives

The actual chemicals might need to be known. However, just looking at a data sheet on Calcium sulfate (probably not something you would add, but just a point of reference), impurities included calcium carbonate and forms of silica. Both of these things could have an impact on your system. I...

    Coral Quarantine

I talked some guys at the vet school here in Raleigh and they felt like the milbemycine oxime treatment was "more harsh" than a lufeneron treatment (mind you, these aren't individuals with that much reef experience, this was just based on the drugs). I think it would have to be delivered...

    Coral Quarantine

Has anyone tried a lufenuron dip (program, sentinel) vs. a milbemycine oxime (interceptor) dip? While lufenuron wouldn't be a good idea for system treatment (chitin inhibitor, bad news for all you arthropods), I would think it might be more cost effective than interceptor. Of course, it could...

    questions about 35g hex

I have been considering a tank of this size and had similar concerns. Because of potential space constraints for a sump/refugium for stands built for tanks this size, I was told to build around the sump/fuge. In other words, start with what you want underneath and go from there. As for...

    Attempting Experiments with Cryptocaryon

I did a scholar.google.com search (similar to pubmed.com, but I find it to be a bit more user friendly) and found a publication by Burgess and Matthews, 1994 in the Journal of Paristology which might be of some interest. While I would have to sneak over to the stacks to find it (PM me if you...

    New Ro/di

do i need to add anything to water such as kent marine osmo prep to water? or just add salt. to ro /di water? As stated, just add the salt. However, buffer if you are using it for a freshwater system (I have seen reefers make this mistake, in turn compromising their freshwater systems)...

    leaking tank?

Just go to the local hardware store and buy some silicone 1. Much cheaper... THe key is that it smells like vinegar and does not have the anti-mildew additive. That and a caulk gun (or whatever you call a caulk gun these days) should hook you right up for much cheaper than the silicone you...
