    Can Fish Choke on Food?

An observation from last night which made me think. I was feeding the tank with frozen PE Mysis shrimp. My 2 1/2 inch spotted mandarine decided he would try one. He chomped on a large whole mysis. It took about 2 min. for him to completely swallow the shrimp. With such a small fish ingesting a...

    Drains and bubbles

Don, I have my hose connected to a "T". Drain hose comes in from the side. One pipe goes up about 8" and is caped with a perforated end cap. The other pipe goes down into the sump and is submerged about 4-6". This gives the bubbles time to escape out the top before the water hits submerged...

Could be Steve. Just a thought , are we sure it is an Acanthurus? Could it be a bristletooth (Ctenochaetus)?

    Lobophyllia or Symphyllia

Here are 2 quotes from Bob Fenner: "Genus Lobophyllia Blainville 1830. Lobed/Flat Brain Coral. Sometimes massive colonies that tend to be dome-shaped. Flabello-meandroid or phaceloid. Large corallites with distinctive knobby, long septal teeth. Valleys (columellae) long and deep, often of...

    Lobophyllia or Symphyllia

Here is a pic of what was labeled as a lobo (and I think it is), but, similar pics I have found on the boards label 'similar' specimens as a syphyllia.

    Lobophyllia or Symphyllia

Calling all gurus of coral identification. (Especially Anthony) :D Is there a reliable way of identifying a lobo vs. symphyllia, short of letting it die  and examining the skeleton? I have seen what I thought were lobophyllia labeled as Symphyllia and vice-a-versa. I was asked by...
