Is the bulb at the end part of the worm? It looks like a Peanut worm. These usually live inside the rock and just extend there "snout" out to eat detritus. If it is a Peanut worm, it is harmless.

New to the Seattle area, help me find some cool saltwater stores!!

The old Red Sea Store was pretty small. They have moved to a much larger space (as Red C Aquarium) and are stocking up. There is another thread with a long list of fish coming in this week.

    Problem Algae, Help!!

Distilled water is made by boiling water and condensing the steam. With the best equipment, this will produce laboratory quality water as close to pure as you can get. With lesser equipment there may be some impurities present such as volatile compounds, but basically all of the minerals are...

    What are these?

    They look like stomatella snails.

    Question about fragging leathers

I like to use the single-edge razor blades. I bought a box of 100 for a few bucks at a hardware store, which will last for years. That way you always have a clean sharp edge when you need it. Leathers slime up a bit when you cut them, so it is best to remove the leather from the tank if you...

Anyone in Northend have a diamond drill for the back of my 54 corner bow?

I have some small diamond bits that I have used to make about a 1" hole in glass with a Dremel tool. Basically, you mark out the hole and use the Dremel like a mini-router to trace around the edge. I made a serviceable hole after practicing on some glass jars. You can't make a perfect circle...

If you're considering buying a Reefkeeper Lite (Basic)...now is the time.

But I believe the Neptune ACJr doesn't come with any power control at that price, whereas the Reefkeeper controls 4 outlets. For 169.99, you can get the Reefkeeper with the pH control and a pH probe.

    Mushroom propogation?

I think a lot of it depends on the individual type of mushroom. I have several kinds. My blue and green-striped mushrooms multiply quickly and pop up all over the tank. I have some spotted mushrooms that multiply more slowly and only spread out from where they are already attached. And I have...

    Once you add Peppermint Shrimp

I put in 5 small ones and didn't see them for months. Now that they are larger, they come out at feeding time and I sometimes see them during the day.

    Aptasia - Peppermint shrimp

By coral shrimp, are you referring to a coral banded shrimp? If so, CBS do eat peppermint shrimp.

    fish acting weird

Someone with more clownfish experience will chime in, but the maroon is one of the most aggressive clowns and the Bangaii is one of the most passive fish. The maroon will also get quite large for a 12 gallon. I would recommend replacing the maroon with a smaller clown, or donate the Bangaii if...

    Mixing corals

I have a mixed tank and run carbon all of the time. I use a Phosban Reactor and just fill it with carbon instead of putting in the Phosban media. I think any kind of canister filter would work. If you are mixing softies and SPS, I would recommend active filtration (have water flow or be...

    Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lots of good advice above, especially the bit about slowing down. One point about the tangs needs to be mentioned. These fish need to eat mostly algae or a vegetable substitute. Fresh macro algae is best if you can grow it in a sump or refugium. Dried algae/seaweed (called Nori in US markets)...

How do I get rid of Aiptasia

I have had good luck with peppermint shrimp, although it seems to be a little hit or miss. I've tried a few of the other methods and Joe's Juice worked the best of the things i tried.

Has anybody tried the dark area filtration?

I believe Jesse built a separate box for a sponge filter for his 400 gallon tank. Unfortunately, I don't remember his last name and there are lots of Jesse's on the forum. Maybe someone else can direct you to him. (He has the big tank in the sunroom that relies a lot on natural light).

    Coral Farming System

Welcome to Reef Frontiers. I believe others have been successful with only natural light in places with a lot less of it than San Diego.

    Fish compatibility help please

I have a 140 gallon tank. When I got the blackcap, I was rebuilding the 140 and I had most of my fish in a 5 foot long 80 gallon tank. I was concerned about mixing an assessor and a blackcap, so I thought if they didn't get along I would put one in the 140 and leave one in the 80 until I...

    Fish compatibility help please

I have a blackcap basslet and a blue assessor and they don't bother each other. The blackcap also doesn't bother neon gobies and regular firefish in the same tank. The only thing I know that the blackcap harasses on a regular basis is me when I am cleaning the tank near his home.
