    Montipora eating nudibranch

I just discovered that I have these this weekend. I haven't aquired any Montipora in quite some time, so they must have come in (possibly as eggs) on something else. I am thinking of moving my Montiporas to a separate tank to treat them and hope they will die out in the main tank if no Montis...

    Dwarf lion in a reef?

Possibly worse than having a lion eat one of your other fish is having a lion eat half of that fish.

    frozen crabmeat fs?

Blazer88 is correct, PoorBod2000 is the guy. I bought 25 pounds at the last meeting which is way more crab than it sounded; I supplied my whole family with crab's legs. I made some great crab cakes with it. It is also good just defrosted in the refrigerator for a day and eaten as is.

    HQI vs. MH

HQI is a form of MH for starters. I don't have any quick links, but do a search for "Sanjay" or "Sanjay Joshi". You will find links to lots of articles he has written on lighting.

    Adding Some More Livesand

I agree, just add it over your existing sand. But don't add more than about a 1/2 inch at a time or you will kill off the sand underneath.

    Live sand as a substrate?

There is a lot of debate on this issue. Do a search on deep sand beds (DSB). Let me oversimplify and say there are three main camps. Bare Bottom (BB) No substrate at all - detritus is vacuumed out or there is enough turbulence to carry the detritus out the overflow and it is collected in a...

    Help with Identification

Do a search on Pseudocorynactis. These aren't great to have, but they don't spread nearly as fast as aiptasia. Look at the picture as the bottom of this article http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/oct2002/invert.htm

Glass shops that will drill holes in Lynnwood/Seattle?

I had my sump drilled by a shop on Mukulteo Speedway about ten years ago, but I don't remember the name or know if it is still there. You might try associated glass on Aurora (425 778-2174) in Lynnwood. I've had some tempered glass made there but I don't know if they drill. Also try searching...

    ID please.......

Do a search on "sessile ctenophore" (if I have spelled it right.) It is a kind of jellyfish. If you look carefully on the toadstool, you may be able to find the body. It is usually nearly transparent or a very light color pink. They are harmless and very interesting creatures. I had several...

    Camera suggestion

See the current thread "My clowns FINALLY hosted in RBTA....pics" for some pictures taken with a Kodak DZ7590. There are several cameras of this type with 10 to 12 X optical zooms for around $300 to $400 that seem to have good macro capability. www.steves-digicams.com has pretty extensive...

Does anyone ever shut off their skimmer during the week for a period of time?

This was kind of lost in all of the skimmer comments, but what is the theory behind leaving the lights off one day a week?

    Adding to sand bed

Either will work. Just don't add too thick a layer at one time over the existing bed.

Saturday night blues....not something you want to happen

I can loan you a 10 gallon or you can have the use of a 65 gallon in my basement till you can get yours fixed. Let me know if either of these options will help.

soft corals and hard corals together

I have a combination of hard and soft corals. Does the finger leather touch any of the hard corals? I have to trim the softies to keep them from physically encroaching on the SPS. I also run a lot of carbon since softies put a lot of chemicals in the water. If you don't run carbon, you might...

Please help me save my reef ASAP!!!!

Breaking caulerpa can release lots of material into the tank. Softies and mushrooms often close up when the tank is disturbed, but I think they will be OK. I would keep running the skimmer and carbon if you can. More water changes won't hurt.

    Plastic tube feeder

How do you prevent some of the fish from hogging the food? I have tried target feeding but my biggest fish ( a red sea sailfin tang ) is always first in line.
