    Crappy Rios

"Hey ya'll...watch this!" and "Here hold my beer" was exactly what I was getting at! I went to College down in the South for a couple of years and recall those phrases more times than I would like to remember...you just know there is about to be some excitement! Hopefully no one took...

    stacking metal halide ballasts

Lets try this again since the 1st one didnt go through.... Is the humidity high here? Oh yes! I am not a "Weather Guesser" as I think you call them but I dare to say that unless you are in the deep DEEP South, its higher here in most parts of Japan Do I have a problem with it? In regards to...

    Crappy Rios

Ahhhh...Get rid of them or at least relegate them to salt mixing duties in a trash can, pumping water at water change time. Use them 24/7 in your tank....and they are an accident waiting for a place to happen, and it will happen, ie...burn up fail to pump and cause a flood as a result, have a...

    stacking metal halide ballasts

I have both of my 400 watt PFO ballast (firing three 400 watt bulbs) stacked with about 3 1/2 inched between them vertically under the tank in the sump area. There is a 12 inch fan thats set on the low setting to move air across the sufaces of both keeping them cool to the touch. Granted I am...

    Compatibility Question

You should be okay, the LFS here stocks them together on a regular basis and it doesnt seem to be a problem. But then again they are being sold pretty quickly too, about every two weeks there is another order to refill the tanks

    That was BRUTAL!

    You too huh?

    Metal Halide question

I dont think so unless your running Double Ended Bulbs as the single ended ones are basically a bulb inside a bulb and therefore UV shielded. I could be wrong though.....

    MH upgrade help needed

Actualy after a couple of years you can start to come out a head in electricity savings versus initial cost. The fact that you can run just about any bulb is an added plus.

    Skimmer Suggestions anyone?

Not inch but 27 gallon "tall" style tank. Its 24L x 13D x 19H. It has limited openings in the back for filtration and such 2" x 13" . I can cut this opening a little wider but I would rather not just becuase it would be a hassle.

    Skimmer Suggestions anyone?

Need a recommendation/suggestions for a skimmer for a "Nano-Reef". I currently have a small 10 gallon "bully tank" that more or less is slowly but surely becoming a Nano Reef. Ultimately I have a 27 tall actylic tank that I would like to get up and running by the end of the year. So I want...

    Nitrate Problem!!!!!

Wow! What a huge bio-Load on such a new tank. Thats way too much way too soon in my humble opinion. I think you are really pushing the ragged edge of a "crash". The advice you have received in the previous replys should definitely be heeded to avert potential disaster. The first thing that...

    toadstool leather frag prop?

I have found that rubber bands that are snug but not tight in a low flow area works out great. I usually wait for mine to get about three or four inches and then sell mine. Of course the prices are much higher here than in the USA. Since the yellow ones from Tonga or the white ones with...

    Fragging: How To?

Go to GARF...www.garf.org. The site is a bit confusing to navagate but try I believe "How to Pages" in the left hand menu. They have a wealth of information there. This is pretty much where I learned about fragging not to mention reef tanks in general. (I mean really...we are too busy making...

    Lighting for Clams?

I agree completely with Elmo18's reply. This is why you will often hear of people keeping clams and having 400 watt 20K halides on say a 75 gallon tank when normally 175's or 250's would be adequate with 10K's. It brings out the best in colors but yet the intensity of 400 watt bulbs make up...

    Reef Fish Quiz

13 for 15 not too bad. Not quiet as good as I thought I would have done......Do I get to add one for the snafu on the one question? It was one of the two I suposedly missed.....

Wow that was too cool! I gotta figure out how to do that! Nice looking tank!!!!

    Lighting for Clams?

Okay lets see if I can pull this off.... Without seeing a pic, I am going to assume that they are just a typical bi-valve type clam that often comes on Live Rock and sometimes the rubble that corals are attached to. They are pretty cool just not real colorful. I have several in one of my...
