    Website Suppliers

Hey everyone I thought I would build a list of places on the web that you use for the many and various supplys that we dont get from our favorite sponsor or LFS. Many things arent carried or there may be great deals on supplies. I see posted many suggested sites one at a time and I thought it...

Buying from websites, I'm new to saltwater

I use both approaches. I use the LFS for the common and ordinary things. But generally speaking for bulk items or the unusual fish or invert the stores dont compete because they cant or wont order something to have it sit in the store. If it is an expensive fish or delicate i like to get it...

    Sump ver 2.0

After looking at your design, I think there will be some challenges. One nice thing is having the filter sock where you have it as long as you can get to it easily and clean it easily. Otherwise it becomes a rotting sock or a ammonia, nitrite, nitrate factory. I would think through the...

    Sump ver 2.0

Having a fuge and sump together isnt a problem. You mentioned that having the skimmer ahead of the fuge sucks out nutrients, etc. That is only true if your skimmer removes 100% of the dom which they never do and secondly, not all your volume of water goes into the skimmer so that is nothing...

    Let's Talk About ~Algae Control~

As a matter of fact it is hard not to get the brown diatoms that come with setting up a new tank, new sand, new rocks, new glass...etc. It should go away within a couple weeks if not i like to clean it out manually by scrubbing and siphoning.

Tons of featherdusters and coraline question

Yellow tangs can be disease prone and it could have nothing to do with the water. Typically, fish will last two to three weeks and suddenly go dead. It is probably mostly that they havent or wont adapt to captivity and have some disease or parasites. Quarantine tanks are a great way to rule...

    Hitchhiker? Tatical strike Caulerpa?

+1 for a baby sponge. Hard to tell from the pic.

    Water evaporation

The general rule of thumb on evap is 1-2% of total water volume per day. You can limit it by putting lids on things and running things cooler. A few degrees makes a big difference in evaporation. When the tank is warmer than the general air temp you will get more evaporation.

    Pods and Macro Algae

I have been looking at night with a light and I dont see anything. I know they grow like crazy and it was nice to see the sand hopping at night. Things happen as far as the tank goes. I am disappointed and sad about the loss but it will give us a chance to talk about what is good for fish and...

    Pods and Macro Algae

I recently had a tank crash that I estimating killed about half of the stuff in the tank. I noticed alot of my pods were dead on the sand. So I am trying to find someone in the Lynnwood/Everett area who wouldnt mind parting with a few of the little creatures maybe living in macro algae. Also...

Other stuff on the glass and rocks.

What percentage of tanks have flatworms? I dont think i have any. I havent seen any evidence of such. To keep them out is it effective to dip in melafix prior to putting in DT? I have been dipping everything.

    Particulates in the the tank

Ed, I am am confused on your post? RHF. Sand? Maintenance on Doctors office? I am trying to match it to filter socks?previous posts Could you help out brain cell challenged among us? Thanks. What am i not getting? Dave, as far as filter socks go you modify the "inflow chamber" by putting a...

    Particulates in the the tank

Another good thing about very fine filter socks are for removing bubbles from returning to the main tank.

    Particulates in the the tank

I would recommend filter socks. It really improves water clarity. And you can get them down to 100 microns, for general aquarium use. Size does matter. A human hair will be between 40 to 100 microns. Or an easier understanding is a thousandth of an inch is equal to about 25 microns. The...

I have had the same problems with brain corals. So I want to see any comments that come in on this thread. Even though it is four months old. Probably nothing more will be said.
