    deceased clown fish Help???

Hey Ron- You CA and kH readings are suspect- Calcium is usually measured in PPM, and is in the 200 (low) to 400+ (normal) range. kH readings have several scales, but .45 is low on all of them. Can you post the units, and which test kits you are using? None of the above would have an effect on...

    Mojo's Airtones Clone Skimmer =)

The uniseal provides a flexible mounting point for the pipe penetration. It can shrug off a bump or whack that a hard-glued joint would crack on. It's a much better idea than hard gluing to the fragile wall of a tube. Zeph

    Basement Sump?

Check the pump curve for a Mag 7- I suspect that it can't lift water that high under any conditions. Get a Sequence pump- You need something that can lift water well, a Mag anything won't do it. Zeph

New tank... in the office, suggestions pls.

Consider making it so you can't see from one side to the other (rock wall in the middle). Often times there are confidential discussions, slides and white-board sessions in a board room. What kind of size are you thinking of? I'm thinking that something that is 3-4' wide (remember the rock...

    Electricity Cost&Consumption

The neat part is that you could replace these heaters with underwater pumps. Since you are adding heat all the time anyway, might as well make it move water around too. A 100W pump fully submerged will dump all 100 watts in to the water, just like a heater does. Note that this does not work...

    Chaeto Question

I have had it grow fine with a single 40 watt Fl bulb over it. Not fast growth, but better than just surviving. That is in a 2 year old system with a DSB though, so plenty of food there. :) Zeph

    New Skimmer

Good point on the oil- I guess I'll either install a multi-stage oil separation filter (like they use for car painting), or get the real pump earlier than I had planned. I would have uses for both devices, so maybe I'll just get both. :) I ordered the same ones that Mike is running I think...

    New Skimmer

Well I broke down and ordered some 6"x1.5" air-stones from Aquatic Ecosystems yesterday. I figure I'll use my 5HP compressor to do some testing, and measure the PSI and flow rate going though them for the best performance, then order the pump that would work best. Thanks for your help Mike-...

    Janurary Meeting

A little note on privacy people- I make it a rule to never post the addresses of places we meet at, so please don't copy my emails up here. If people need the address, they can send me a note and I'll add them to the email list. Thanks all- I had a good time at the meeting, and Kevin...

    Powerhead mod

Very cool- Nice job on the cut & fit- I would bet it was tedious. It would be nice to know what the power draw was before/after too. Thanks for sharing! Zeph

    Breaking in a new skimmer

Doug- The Iwaki 70 would be fine, especially for smaller tanks (200 gallon range). For tanks in the 400+ range, I would recommend the 100. The new 4200's can be ordered with a recirculating option, but they will not be available until March. I need to do some testing on how the pump responds...

    o2manyfish - Skimmer Comparison

Dave- It does not display well under Netscape. Better under IE 6, but they still stagger across the page. Zeph

    o2manyfish - Skimmer Comparison

Dave- I had a suggestion for your web page. You might want to put in a section where the manufacturer can add a rebuttal- For example you say on one item: "Collection cup is really small- Skimmer must be used with collection container" In another you say: "If not used with a drain cup...

    New Skimmer

Ok, now we're cookin'- Nothing like starting a new design. :) So if we are looking at a total height of 48 (or 60) inches so: Mixing box around 12"x12x12" (7.5 gallons) 10" main column, 24" (30") = 7.8 gallons (9.7g) Total volume: 15-17 gallons I'm leery of the 6" neck, and 10" cup. I'd...

    New Skimmer

Ok Mike- Lets say we are designing a new air-stone skimmer from scratch. Taking what you have learned, what should it look like? Assume it would be sized for a 300-500g system. Here is a rough cut: 8" main column (maybe 10"?) 48" high, with an option to add height in 1' increments standard...

    Skimming conversation

I guess I'll give up too. Your article talked about the effects of charging particles in a fluid, which is great. What you have failed to do is show how a titanium needle wheel effects that charge in a saltwater system. Zeph
