    dtpetsupplies

Well, that's good news! I've considered ordering a light fixture from them, but held off based on some of the feedback I'd heard. Might have to give them another look.

    dtpetsupplies

I read on RC that they have issues with communication and are very slow with their shipping. I've had great luck with marinedepot and fosterandsmith for general supplies. Just placed a big order with fosterandsmith. Also, fosterandsmith do not charge extra to ship salt mix!

    Aptaisia control in fowlr?

My thinking was that I would like to have a butterfly in this tank, and if I have a butterfly, maybe it would also help with aptaisia that might pop up. I suppose if I ended up with aptaisia troubles, I could rotate pieces of rock to my tank with the peppermints and let them deal with it!

    Aptaisia control in fowlr?

I am told that copperband can be a little tricky to get to eat as well. I am planning on just fish and a cleanup crew, so corals etc. will not be a problem. Thanks!

    Aptaisia control in fowlr?

I am planning a 75g fowlr and will be using LR from an existing tank. It is aptaisia free thanks to my peppermint shrimp. If I end up getting fish that are incompatible with shrimp, how do you keep aptaisia down? Do some butterfly types eat aptaisia? Thanks!

How risky is it to use a hang on overflow on a non drilled tank?

If you use the U tube overflow and have it adjusted properly, it will not lose siphon. I have used a hang on overflow for a few years now and have had no problems.

Which is the best star for DSB?

I believe you are thinking of the sand sifting star, which you actually want to avoid in a DSB. It will consume the beneficial fauna in your sand and once this is gone it will starve. Instead, get some nassarius snails. They love to burrow and will stir up your sand bed without harming the...

    Oarfish

I remember seeing a show on Discovery or the like, about sea serpents, bigfoot etc. Two men mentioned seeing a strange, unknown creature with what they called a horse-like head and a 20 ft. tail. It wasn't long after that that I saw footage of an oarfish and realized that was what they must have...

    Most reliable heater?

I have been using the ebo jaeger heaters and find that after a while they tend to stick in the 'on' mode. What are some good heaters that won't be likely to fail in this manner? Thanks!

Flow in a 55 with softies

I have about 60 lbs of LR arranged along the middle of the tank so that water can flow all around it. I will experiment with directing the flow more towards the bottom and see what that does. Thanks!

Flow in a 55 with softies

I have been reading the big "Plumbing and Flow" thread and I'm wondering what would be a good scheme for a 55 gallon BB with soft corals. The main thing I'm trying to work around is that I have to have the overflow on the end, so it's a long way from the far end to get detritus all the way to...

    PC bulb quality

Actually I've been thinking about getting a T5 fixture. Maybe a 4x54w unit.

    PC bulb quality

In my never ending quest to find supplies at a lower cost, I am wondering about some of the various brands of PC bulbs that I see online. For instance: http://www.innovativelights.com/65wapocobu1.html There are also JBJ, Jalli and "no name" lights available. Some times things are the same...

    Best corals for 20g nano

Yes, the LR is all the bio filtration I have. I have the tank lightly stocked as well. Once I removed the sand, within a week all my nuisance algae had disappeared and has not been back.

    Best corals for 20g nano

I didn't replace it at all. The display tank is bare bottom, and there's no longer any LR or LS in the sump. I believe the consensus is that 1" or less fine sand is okay for aesthetic purposes, or for sand burrowing creatures like gobies. Mark

    Help critique my system

I had a similar conversation a while back in this forum. It's hard to see all the amazing tanks people have and resist the temptation to build the 'reef garden' that Anthony mentions. There's only one logical conclusion: You need more tanks :) Mark

    A nice little surprise

It's so tiny that I could never get a pic with my camera :) When it grows up a bit I'll be sure to get a shot. Mark

    A nice little surprise

Back at the beginning of June I bought a toadstool leather. It had a few pieces of LR rubble attached which fell off as it attached itself to my LR. I left these bits where they landed in the tank, not thinking anything of it. There was a tiny piece of the original coral on one of these pieces...

    Best corals for 20g nano

You mention two that I had in mind after perusing Borneman's book. The blastomussa and caulastrea both looked like they'd be very attractive corals.
