    mixing the dams

no need to cycle with damsels... throw a raw, unseasoned table shrimp or a large pinch of flake food in there for a few days and that will get the cycle kick started... DO NOT put damsels in there unless you intend for them to be long term residents... many people, including myself, have torn a...

    Feeding Naso Tang

nasos are messy fish (along with most other tangs)... because of their high activity, i would suggest feeding nori daily along with the mysis and other foods that you already feed... when i had my naso, desjardini, and clown tang, they ate a whole sheet of nori every day plus mysis 4 times per...

    Calcium Reactor Basics

a ph controller is nice to have (milwaukee sms122)... yes you can diy it... lots of plans out there, just google "diy calcium reactor"... the nice thing about a reactor versus dosing 2 part is that once its dialed in, you dont have to do anything to it unless you need to refill the media or co2...

    the neverending Salt topic

dont forget that your mixing procedure can make or break your new batch of water... if the walls of your mixing container look chalky, you're not getting the full potential from your salt and you are either adding the salt too quickly, not agitating the water properly, or the water temperature...

    understanding water pump pressure?

i adjust my flow so that detritus piles up in easy to siphon areas of the tank... makes removal during water changes super easy... i wouldnt worry about the slots if the flow in the tank is good and things are happy

    Dead SPS Colony

cut/break off what you can and throw it in your calcium reactor... about all you can do... did you acclimate the corals when you replaced your bulbs? depending on how old the bulbs were, you could have shocked the coral with the new bulbs intensity... this sounds very probable since you...

    My lighting options

my advice would be to save up and retrofit 3x250w mh's into a canopy with the best reflectors you can buy... it's hard to beat the look, flexibility, and color choices of a good mh setup ;)

    My lighting options

t5, t8, and t12 are bulb sizes relating to the diameter of the bulb... typically VHOs are t12 sized bulbs with "very high output" (hence VHO... t5's are smaller diameter and typically carry the designation of "HO"...also "VHOs" have internal reflectors within the bulb whereas t5s use individual...

    fish for a 40B?

no sand=no goby no tangs... as much as i miss the tangs from my 120 i wont put one in this small of a tank... honestly, ill probably never have another tang in less than a 500-600g tank... they can "fit" in smaller tanks but i dont feel its fair long term to keep them in anything less... JMHO...
