    ? Euroreef Standpipe ~ DIY ?

No problem Scooterman. rivdog, thanks for the reply. I just hope they aren't rediculiously priced. I'll check them out locally. Online they seem to be a bit overpriced so far. http://www.qcsupply.com/Products/840.aspx

    ? Euroreef Standpipe ~ DIY ?

I'm in the middle of building a skimmer and it's about time to plan the stand pipe. I've been checking the dimensions of PVC, ABS, CPVC ... to find 2 pipes/sizes that slide into each other like this. Does anyone know of how to do this or how it was done?

    Ro/di?

Here's the link: http://www.filterdirect-water.com/index.html 100 gpd 6 stage Ro/DI including a TDS meter. I paid $103.00 including shipping. Now the price is more like $120.00

    PVC vs. ABS

I recently read on RC that the reason that ABS is not NSF approved or FDA approved is because most ABS is used for purposes not intended for potable water or food; therefore NSF/FDA approval is not required though it is perfectly safe.

any one got a water top off system that easy to build

You can simply elevate a container that will hold enough water to replenish your tank for about a week or so. Make your own bulkhead fitting like shown below. In this case you would want to drill some holes in the fitting that goes into your container so that it will be able to drain...

    Would this work?

If you do choose to ... lets say ... add a pump or get a bigger pump you may then have to increase the size of your pipe/hose or add a second one. Do you use a standard stand pipe with a pre-filter in your siphon overflow? When I bought my overflow it came standard like that. It made too much...

    Would this work?

No not at all. You see your overflow is already handling 100% of the flow right now (unless you've intentionally restricted your pump). I’d be willing to bet that your internal overflow box is not skimming all that well because the water level in that box is just a tiny bit lower than the water...

    Would this work?

Until then, maybe try to add an additional siphon tube. I did that to an overflow in a 55 gal tank of mine and it made a big difference. It quickly equalized the inner and outer overflow boxes and makes it handle more flow as well. You can make them out of PVC; just 2 90s and some PVC pipe. I...

    Got Flow ???

Is that a float valve installed in there? How long does it take before it clicks off? I imagine that could be used on just about ANY pump. In case a sump runs too low or if a pump prefilter gets too clogged, etc... your pump will not run needlessly.

    Gen X submersible GX1000 Pump

http://www.customaquatic.com/customaquatic/searchhomekeyresult5.asp I think this link works now. It's only $19.00 and has a needle wheel. The specs are a little vague and I have no idea what size skimmer it is typically for. For $19.00 I can’t imagine it would skim a 55 gallon aquarium. Any...

    Gen X submersible GX1000 Pump

I have a few tanks of different sizes in need of some serious skimming. Thinking about constructing some skimmers. Tanks between 55-75 gal. Anyone had much experience with this pump? Think it would do a good job? I have never witnessed one and have no clue what the needle wheel looks like...

    DIY needle wheel

You can make a venturi. Don W had a DIY Venturi post a while back. He tooled a piece of acrylic rod. I used his basic idea, but I filled PVC (or anything) with a 2-part product and drilled it like he showed. In the link below I placed some of Don's pics as well as mine. www.randystacye.com

    home brewed overflow

I love your skimmer. I wish I had a Euro Reef. Do you get lots of noise from your overflow standpipe? I have an overflow that is almost identical though I couldn’t stand the slurping sound of the standpipe so I pulled of the filter and popped on a Durso. It made it dead silent. I even added a...

    power head For Skimmer Bubble

I'd bet that you have the venturi on the output of the pump before the skimmer. Have you tried placing the venturi on the input of the pump? You can adjust the ammount of air that enters the venturi so that it will not cavitate the pump.

    PVC vs. ABS

I once heard that ABS is fine for fresh water but not for salt water. I heard that ABS is not as UV resistant as PVC. I'm not trying to spread rumors. I did read it on a forum somewhere. I'd bet ABS is a fine alternative.

    Ro/di?

I bought my RO/DI on eBay from an excellent company called: Filter Direct Co. They have such great prices that I even bought a booster pump from them. It came with everything you could ask for less than "the pump only" from any other company I have found. I hightly recomend them. They even...

    DIY needle wheel

bishop, I have went round and round trying to duplicate the Euroreef needle impeller which is much less complicated (less bristles/needles) and have been unsuccesful. The 3M bristle disk is much much more complicated and I doubt that anyone would be able to reproduce them. I actually...

    Top-off and water change project.

Just a question...Could your system be simplified by using gravity taking out the waste water and have your SW reservior elevated so that it can be gravity fed back to the system? I have a couple of my tanks set up on a automatic topoff using an elevated reservior feeding a float valve. My...

DIY OVERFLOW (I think im on to somtin')

Here is my DIY overflow: http://www.randystacye.com/diy_overflow.htm Keep in mind that this is on my wife's turtle tank. That may help explain why the water level is as low as it is. I changed a couple of things though the photos show before and after they were changed. I'd say this is your...
