    Which Halide Bulb???

Scooter this is my last post on the subject since you seem to be offended. I view ballast effeciency as PAR or PPFD produced/vs watts expended. Sanjay uses this definition in his website and gives an effeciency "factor". If you compare his DE bulb data on his website (lamp/ballast combos)...

    Which Halide Bulb???

JMO, eballasts are good choices for SE bulbs. They are poor choices for in particular the 250w DE bulb. It underdrives them, no ifs ands or buts. There is no effeciency advantage vs the mag HQI M80 ballast (look at Sanjay Joshi's data, in fact often the M80 is MORE effecient). There is no...

    Which Halide Bulb???

Becky, with DE MH its all about two things. One you have a bulb that is made to be run on the mag HQI ballast which juices things at 300+watts. You CAN run SE bulbs on that ballast, but you WILL suffer early color shifting and bulb deaths. You will not have that problem with DE MH. Two the...

    Sump Flow Rate Debate.

I personally advocate 5 turnovers or so through the sump. That gives the skimmers and heaters/chillers, whatever plenty of "face time" with the tank water. Minimizes pump size. Makes overflow noise and flow easier to manage. Get the rest of your flow in other ways.

    o2manyfish - Skimmer Comparison

it's....finicky....and like if one of Dave's other pets hits the camera or something....

    Which submersible pump?

eheim, though I dunno they make one with the flow rates you're looking for.

    o2manyfish - Skimmer Comparison

I dunno but if you notice that foam head on the Deltec is what impresses me on my AP702. It's like super stable and thick...like the top of a latte. Dave's system right now....you could make a seaclone work in that thing with everything that died after the s.g. drop....

    o2manyfish - Skimmer Comparison

It's just real life catching up with Dave. He's been very, very busy. Last time I was by, there was an old ER and a viaaqua in the "test bed", BUT then I heard the ER was gonna get swapped out for a newer model blah, blah, blah. Anyways, mostly Dave is just too busy right now. Things will...

    Skimmer point of no return??

I kinda doubt it. It's not really a "closed" system. You always add "something". I think you can get to very nutrient poor with very little to skim, but I doubt there's a point of nothing unless you're talking a tub of sterile salt water.

    Gem Tang

Supposed to be reasonably hardy. They still command hefty price tags. Despite the price tag they don't last long at the wholesalers when available. They sell quick.

    Testing RowaKalk

I dunno, I'm using some I got as a freebee, it doesn't seem any different than say seachem or whomever else I've used.

    T5 Ballast Question

I'm using all MH right now as well with no supplementals.

    T5 Ballast Question

2, 3 or 4. I don't think you can run only one. I'd have to check the wire diagrams. The way an IC ballast works the lamps get the same amount of wattage regardless to my understanding. If leads aren't wired, they are dead.

    T5 Ballast Question

I guess it's a semantics issue b/c to me, if you are pushing 80-85w through a 54w bulb, that's overdriving. The workhorse ballast IS a separate issue I agree. There is no "T5HO" ballast that will run 2 80w bulbs, but the workhorse 7 a "jack of all trades ballast" will do it. FWIW this is a...

    T5 Ballast Question

Actually, Scoot, you "can't" normal drive a T5HO with an IC660. It simply pushes that much wattage through the lamp. You aren't doing anything wacky with the wiring like you would if you overdrive the lamps with say a workhorse ballast. You can't overdrive T5HOs with "T5HO" ballasts either...

    T5 Ballast Question

Explain this to me please. I'd like to understand the reasons why and then try to make it correlated with what I've seen first hand. I know that IC claims that if you run a 54w T5HO on the IC660, you drive it at 80-85w. I know that even with the plain 'ol eyeball meter, a 54w T5HO is brighter...

    o2manyfish - Skimmer Comparison

Dave is having issues with his "real life", ie he's been working his backside off and has made no progress with the skimmer comparison.

    Tunze Turbelle stream 6060

The 6060 cannot be electronically controlled. What you CAN do is put 'em on a conventional timer with 1 hour on/off cycles. Tunze states that the 6060 and the 6080 can withstand 1 hour on/off indefinitely. Anything faster than that AMFYOYO. I would suggest the following. Have one dialed in...
