So my Reef is a Little Off

The only reason I was going to bring it up to 440 was because the calculator in your linked article about Reef Chemistry for Beginers Part 2 shows that for my current Alk level the correct ammount of CA++ was 440. Once ballance is reached I can then allow the two to fall evenly threw use and...

So my Reef is a Little Off

I am sure they test their water, their coral tanks always look healthy. I tested again tonight to see if I made a mistake yesterday. The Alk test was the same. 4meq/L or 11.2DKH The CA++ test had a different result which is closer to where it should be. 345mg/L - 360mg/L My daughter was...

So my Reef is a Little Off

It could be a testing error and I would never think of dumping in all that Calcium all at once and plan to verify the results again before dosing anything. I am using Aquarium System's Fast Test brand of test kits. I do not have a Mg++ test kit. I have used a few No28 blocks in the past as...

So my Reef is a Little Off

Do you know where in the Tacoma area one can obtain a variaty of this suitable for use in an aquarium?

So my Reef is a Little Off

After not testing for a long time and neglecting water changes in the recent past I have start to get back on track with the water changes and just tested my water today to see where I am at. 20g display, 3g HOB fuge with little if any macro Livestock: 1 Common Clown 1 Decorated Goby Kenya...

HUGE eunice worm found, what do I do with it?

Perhaps one of the local aquariums might want him?

using a Plenum in a aquarium

GARF uses them as part of their Bullet Proof Reef setups and has instructions on how you build and use them.

    goby q's

None of the sand sifting gobies are small enough to be happy in a 5.5 in my opinion at least not the ones avalable in the trade. Sand sifting starfish are also not a critter suited for smaller tanks and will very quickly consume the avalable nutrient in your sand and then starve. A Clown Goby...

Need an opinion on my setup...

That Hydor Koralia looks like a nice pump. When I have the space coin I am going to pick up a few, if they are in stock. Well I have rearranged the tank, to put the corals in more approate locations for flow and lighting. The lights are now down to about 9" over the water and in a few weeks I...

Need an opinion on my setup...

I have plans to add a sump, I will be picking up a used one in a week or two. The skimmer will have to wait until I have more cash as I want to go with in insump stump style one like the ASMs or Octopus varity. The system has been running for at least 4 years, 2 of which is was in a 10g and...

Need an opinion on my setup...

Right now I have a 20g AGA Long with an HOB fuge. There is a 2" sand bed and about 30# of LR. 4 bulb T5 30" with a single reflector which I suspend about 12" above the water as this light might be a little overkill for a 12" deel tank. For water movment I have a single MJ 900 and a single...

    RBTA wasting away

I was under the same impression. From what I have read here and on Reef Central they shold be fed liek any other critter in the aquarium. Either direct feeding or indirect through means of a host fish.

    Denitrification WithOUT live rock.

Not sure how its constructed but Indoor Reef in Tacoma is selling a product called the "Practical Reef De-Nitrator" that they claim will reduce nitrates to 0 in a system up to 300 gallons using natural Aerobic and Anaerobic Bacteria. Not sure how it works and I have not been by to talk to them...

You know those little starfish that every one hates... They like the dark and the ones I have are algea munchers, the micro brittle starfish I have eat the wastes as do my pods...

    Chaeto Dieing

Cyano? I thought that stuff is a thin film, like Diatoms. This is thicker almost like a leather coral that is growing along the surface of the rock face. Once I get some picks I will post a new thread. Its not like anything I have seen before.

    Chaeto Dieing

I can't seem to get cheato to last in my fuge either. Not sure why but it always slowly just dies off and then algea of different types grow in the tank. Weird stuff too. About the only algea that does not seem to die off is the stuff that came in the Reef Pods bottle, its a light green thin...

how do you keep your sand so clean?!

I have a decorated Goby and my sand is spotless. He sifts through the sand all day, builds caves and tunnels under the rocks and has done a great job of keeping my sand nice and clean. http://www.saltcorner.com/sections/zoo/fish/gobies/istigobius/Idecoratus.htm

What do you feed your Clownfish(es)?

This is a hard poll for me to vote on as I could very easily select several different awnsers. Formula 1 Flake Formula 2 Frozen Frozen Mysis Home made mash (Shrimp,Scallop, Catfish, Formula 2, DTs Phyto, Mysis) Reef Frenzy I just used up the last of my mash though.

    Planing the upgrade...

Bigger also means more $$$ which I have a very limited amount, as it is I will have to save for quite some time to set this one up. I would love a masive tank but would hate the maintance. With the 58g I can probaly get away with still using T5, as the depth is not so bad, with a 120g or...

    I gotta puffer

There is a huge one at a local restraunt here in Seattle. The Rainforest Cafe in Southcenter has a masive one. It is suppose to be the largest in captivity. I think they said 22lbs.
