    Upgrading lighting

The 150w HQI over your 29g cube should be great. Like Krish75, I've got the same light on an aquapod 24, and it's more than enough for whatever you'll want to keep in the future. I'm really glad I got this light instead of PC. Everything in the tank just eats it up (literally) and grows like...

    What is an onyx clown?

Wow, it's really amazing how fish from the same brood are at different levels of maturity/coloring. I wonder if it's due to when folks bought their fish and each fish started getting "specialized" care from it's new owner.

    What is an onyx clown?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong... I believe it's a strain of A. percula where the area between the 1st and 2nd bars (and sometimes the btw. the 2nd and 3rd) is either completely or partially filled in with black. If you run a search "onyx percula" you should find quite a few pics.

    Elmo's onyx.

No other fish yet. This one rules the whole tank! I've had my tank set up for about 5 months now. It's stocked with lots of softies. I figured one of Elmo's fish would be a good way to start. Also, knowing the tank was disease free, as well as the fish, I figured this would be the only fish...

    Elmo's onyx.

No mate for mine. I've got just 24 gallons and wanted to be able to stock a couple of other fish.

    Elmo's onyx.

Here's mine. I've only had him/her for a month and it's maturing quickly. Even since this picture about a week ago, the orange is becoming more vibrant, most fins are now lined in black, and the second stripe is starting to fill in from the bottom up.

    Water Temperature ??

78 - 81 during the summer with no chiller. A small fan blowing on the water's surface really works wonders to stablize temps. Right now it's set to run every other hour when the lights are on. On really hot days, I just set it to run more frequently. FYI I have a 24 g. Aquapod with the 150...

Tank pics and Thanks to many

Thanks Ilham, The clown I got from you is doing great! Really starting to get his(her?) colors now. At first, it just hung out at the surface in the corner of the tank and seemed timid. But it really took to the terra cotta pot and follows the pot when I move it around that tank. Now I...

Tank pics and Thanks to many

Here's some pics of my "new" tank (4 months now). Here's the stats: - 24 gal Aquapod - 150 HQI metal halide - Remora Pro skimmer - lots of softies, frogspawn, clean-up crew, and a true percula - 0 nitrates and no algae issues yet (fingers crossed!) Nearly everything came from connections...

    Flying with livestock

Thanks all. Any other ideas or experiences before I start calling the airlines?

    Flying with livestock

carry on Yeah, carry-on makes most sense. But since last summer airlines won't let any liquids in carry-on luggage through the security checkpoint. I suppose if you showed them live animals in the liquid they might let it through. But I would hate to get turned away at that point.

    Flying with livestock

Anyone had experience flying the friendly skies with livestock? ---Especially since 9/11? My dad is coming to visit from back east (Rhode Island), and I would like to send him home with some frags for his tank (mostly softies). I imagine a carry-on is out of the question (3 oz. liquid max.)...

How to use that extra space in an Aquapod

Thanks everyone for the ideas so far. I'll definitely check it out.

How to use that extra space in an Aquapod

Has anyone made good use of that extra space in the back compartment of the Aquapod 24 g? Based on many of the threads here, I tossed the foam pads, bio balls, and ceramic cylinders that came stock with the tank (the old "nitrate factory" issue). But even with a skimmer, heater, and powerhead...

    environmentally friendly marine fish?

Hey all, I'm considering getting a tropical marine aquarium after being out of the hobby for about 15 years. But if I set up a tank, I really want to be sure that purchasing marine tropical fish/invertebrates does not contribute to the destruction of coral reefs or fish populations around...
