peppermint shirmp not as effective as I though

I think the way to go would be set up a seperate tank, say a 10 gallon, and put nothing but peppermint shrimp in there and just rotate rock through 1 piece at a time. as far as manual removal goes those guys are pretty hardy. I have melted the smaller ones with an injection of hydrogen...

peppermint shirmp not as effective as I though

i even went through the trouble of taking out a bunch of rock and capturing my BC shrimp. I think he may have killed my first one a year ago. I put him down with the cheato untill tonight when I felt bad and put him back in the main tank. they are both roaming around right now in the dark. I...

peppermint shirmp not as effective as I though

I finally decided to try another peppermint shrimp to try and get rid of the apstasias. I have been observing him at night with a red light. He seems to walk right over them, sometimes probing at them. He did come out for a second today and steal a peice of shrimp I was feeding to something else...

    Anyone like guitars?

Nice job for my senior project I actually built a guitar. We used autocad to get the fret spacing and bridge positions. Basically just started with a slab of maple and built a strat neck, hand filed it down, fabricated the body, cut fret grooves, ect ect. The paint job was alittle lacking, I...

    Tank horror stories

A few years back I had a small 10 gallon aquarium set up in the kitchen. The cats loved it beacuse they could get right up to it and watch the fish. And then one day I head a huge splash and seconds later a very wet cat went running by.. that and I have got shocked a few times trying to unplug...

Tearing down a mess of a tank/cooking liverock

New 20l FOWLR notice the only lighting is the subcompact 50/50 bulb. Thats as much as I want. I don't want this algea growign anymore, and I plan to move it over to the side with the cheato. I only have the eel, and urchin, and a small fish in here. I may ad a b,coral shrimp and some crabs...

Tearing down a mess of a tank/cooking liverock

well- I set things up pretty good. I had things under controll for a long time. I had a built in overflow, 30 galon sump. Macroalgea, skimmer, dual returns, powerheads in the corners. Barebottom, and the problem was ditritus removal. I wasn't siphoning it out once a week like I used too. I...

Tearing down a mess of a tank/cooking liverock

I have to take down my 60. It is a disaster, loaded with 20 pounds of hair algea. the whole project was doomed. A 60 barebottom that I didn't have enough flow or dititus removal. Anyway, after the rock became grass, a decided to cut my losses and removed my best rock, coral, and inverts. Now I...

    nothing but hair...

Yeah! same here, first, well, I always used R/O water, have the cheato, foxface, and scrubed the rocks like crazy. Its a 60 gallon, and I have it set up barebottom, for 1 year, but thats including moving it twice. I thoght that carbon was less in that it was out these days. Its going to...

    nothing but hair...

I had considered a phosphate reactor, but I was hoping my tank wasn't big enough to warrent one. That, and the low bioload.

    nothing but hair...

its really a joke at this point. I have crossed lances with the algea, and been bested. My retarded foxface turned out to do more harm then good, eating nothing but lettuce and shrimp. The urchin was the only viable soldier, really making me proud untill he could no longer even make a dent...

    Algea and new bulbs-

my stupid foxface I bought simply wont eat anything but lettuce!! I am really inraged about it in fact, beacuse he nearly starved to death in a sea of green, and now he jusat makes things much worse as his detritus addition is far greater then the 2 other fish. I couldn't even believe that I am...

    Algea and new bulbs-

Did you manage to get rid of the hair once the water was nitrate/other nuitrent free? I can get it down to the rock, but the base of it seems to stay no matter what.

    Algea and new bulbs-

My fight with the hair aglea continues. It has been about 1 year exactly from when I bought my lights. 4 65 PCs. 2 actinic and 2 12000 k. Now I am going to go with 2 actinics, but I don't see 12000s around, only 10000. Is there something I should know abou this?' I know that as bulbs get...
