    Mandarin ?

Just a side note, I know that mandarins eat pods. I have one though that prefers to eat brine shrimp when I am feeding the other fish as well. I see him rooting through the rocks throughout the day, but at feeding time he is often the first fish waiting for shrimp. I know that this is rare, but...

Help with a leak on my 29 biocube

I know you said you moved your tank before this happened. Did you make sure that the tank was level in the new location? I had this problem and it was an unlevel tank causing the leak.

so um where did the crab come from?

Crabs can hitchhike in on live rock. Do you have a picture of him? You will get help identifying him easier. It is really hard to tell from the description exactly what he is. Body color is important in identifying the crab also.

    Probably Shouldn't Have Done This.............

Sorry to hear about your loss. It is always a bummer to lose a fish, but at least you had some learning experiences to share with others.

    Probably Shouldn't Have Done This.............

I have been following along on this thread. I purchased a mandarin about a month ago with assurance that it was eating mysis. Well after getting home I never seemed to see him eating anything I put in the tank. I did not worry too much because I have quite a bit of pods in my tank and he seemed...

    Questions about coralline algae

Sorry about the slow reply. I have been sick for a week now. I tested my parameters and they are: Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates all 0. PH 8.2, SG 1.025. I do not have any other test kits available. I was observing the tank though tonight and I saw several of the hermits in an area, they seemed to...

    Questions about coralline algae

About a week ago I introduced 2 emerald crabs and about a dozen blue leg hermits into my tank. Since then I have noticed a large section of my rock has been stripped down to bare rock:frusty:. These rocks had some bubble algae and slight hair algae before this. They were also covered in...

    new fish suggestions

If you want a relatively calm tank mate with lots of flash go for a royal gramma. They have wonderful color and are rather active fish. At least mine is swimming throughout the tank all day.

Update on the mandarin? Have you started culturing the pods yet?

Will do. I am going to get it tomorrow afternoon and then spend the rest of the night setting it up probably. I will get some pics up after it is all settled in.

    Question about transferring a tank

DTECH07 That sounds like a plan to maintain the heat. I hope that the bumpy roads will provide enough circulation to get me home! LOL

    Question about transferring a tank

Thank you guys for the advice. I already have my saltwater made up and ready to go. As for the cooler that is a great idea I never thought of using that for transferring. I have a few larger ones that will work great for this job. The converter will not work because the water will be in the back...

    Question about transferring a tank

I wont be able to supply flow during the drive which is a couple of hours! This is where my problem is I will be at least 2-3 hours with no flow or heat. The buckets will be in the back of a cube van for this time. Will this kill off the pods?

    Question about transferring a tank

I am picking up a tank tomorrow that has been established for quite a while. The current owner says that he does not feed the tank at all. It has a large amount of pods. My question is that with moving it and all I will be taking most of the water in the tank but it will be in buckets for at...

    Help with bristle worms

The gloves were an after thought, it took me two times of having run-ins with them to discover that gloves may be a good idea!!! I guess I am kinda a slow learner sometimes!!!

    Help with bristle worms

Thank you all for the advice. I think that with this information I can get a plan of action to get the numbers down a little bit. I had heard about arrow crabs, but was told that they will eat other things that I don't want them to. I think cutting feedings back a bit may help the problem too.

    Help with bristle worms

Leslie I was referred to this forum to talk to you about eradicating some bristle worms from my tank. I bought the tank about a year ago and it was my first sw tank. After getting it home I was doing some rock scaping and discovered that I had a massive bristle worm infestation. I know that they...

Poll: Who has been injured by their tank?

Krish Thank you for the link I will check it out tonight when I get off work. Looks like there is a wealth of information there. Also thank you for the welcome. I have been a member/lurker here for about a year since I got my first tank. When I got the tank I was a novice and thought this wont...

Poll: Who has been injured by their tank?

It sounds like bristle worms to me. I have had the pleasure of running into them twice now. Their bristles break off easily and are nearly impossible to see unless you get several in one area. Lucky me I found out the hard way that after I bought my established tank from someone else that it was...
