    HH Goniopora palmensis coming back?

    How is your goni doing?

    Goniopora Stokesi

That's an excellent improvement. That's what it should look like. Great job, very nice!

Goniopora sp. sp. is an abbreviation for "species".

    Goniopora Stokesi

It is a natural coloration, minus the zooxanthellae. With the polyps retracted, the fluorescent proteins appear more concentrated. The contrast of the photo is way overintensifiying it.

    Goniopora Stokesi

Yours is NOT supposed to be completely yellow. Your Goni would have been more brown when it originally came out of the ocean; unless it was "bleached" (lacking zooxanthellae) to begin with. Zooxanthellae gives the coral a brown coloration and is necessary for the good health of the coral...

    Goniopora Stokesi

It looks very very similar to a stokesi, but I don't think it is. It definitely is in better health than it was previously. As the coral regains zooxanthellae, the tentacle and polyp coloration will shift from fluorescent green to clear-whitish and then to brown. Eventually, after the coral...

labman, You beat me to posting on here about Rob and TalkingReef. I am also surprized there isn't more "talk" about it :). He and I just did an hour long program on Goniopora (episode 45) which I am very pleased with. His ability to interact with and sum up my information while we were making...

    HH Goniopora palmensis coming back?

May I suggest this.... Before you start repeating the past, mostly unsuccessful, husbandry methods in your experiment and eventually turning your 12g nano into a "Dirty Water" sump, that you hook up a small skimmer and run some carbon; while continuing to feed every other day (every third day)...

    HH Goniopora palmensis coming back?

IMO, the only thing that nitrate may be helping with is feeding the zooxanthellae and therefore potentially increasing the rate of zooxanthellae repopulation. If the nitrate reading was below a readable amount the coral would still repopulate zoox, but it may take a little longer. Why would...

Do you have any results to share from YOUR goniopora(s)? Pics? What different species of Goniopora have you tried it on and how often did you feed them?

How deep is your tank? Your coral should grow, although slowly, if it is placed within 18 inches of the 48w lights. If it were mine, I would place it around 12 inches under the light and begin from there. If the tissue coloration begins to lighten or fade again, move it lower. If it...

    Flower Pots...Gonipora...Under halides?

If it is the common "green" goniopora, it needs to be at least 2 feet (24 inches) or more away from the 175w mh bulb and preferably not directly underneath it either.
