OK All, since its still early in the Salmon season this thread is to show off the other Fish Hobby pics. I'll start as Duane (trido) and his son Ethan joined me today in fishing the very abundant Pink run heading up the Snohomish River. We mostly pitched little 1/4oz pink leadhead jigs with pink mini-hoochies caught our limits and then some! We released another 30 or so plus 100's of bites/takes and in general had a Fintastic Time!:fish2:

A little teaser of why I like October so much, this was me and my cousins catch from last October out on the Sol Duc River (Olympic Peninsula)

The Sol Duc is my all-time favorite Salmon fishing destination for the past 30 years, on this trip I packed out about 95lbs of cleaned fish (gutted and de-headed) Biggest King 35lbs and largest Coho 20.5 lbs. We also caught & released another 25 or so fish all from the same drift/slot. There were between 500 and 1500 fish laying in front of us all day, fresh from the morning high-tide push.
I am planning a RF Coastal Salmon Fishing trip 3rd week of October +- (Sol Duc, Humptulips, Queets/Salmon whichever is producing best at time) Shoot me a pm if interested, max of 8 guys (2 rigs) one full day trip leaving 4-ish and return dark-ish.

Cheers, Todd

I can fit four in my truck and have absolutely no qualms with it smelling like a salmon. ;)

Its not to late yet, the Pink Salmon are still pouring into the Snohomish and a few Silvers (Coho) starting to show as well. Went out yesterday with a friend and we boated around 40 in less than 3 hours, put in at Snohomish (Maple St.) ramp and ran down about 2 miles to intercept schools coming in with the incoming tide leap-frogging them back to launch site.

Forecast is looking sweet for the Quilliute system so just a couple more teasers from last years trip to the Sol Duc River October 19th & 20th

Holy crap Todd. Those things are huge! You are smoking those things up for the bbq at your place....oh, THIS MONTH!
That king could feed an army!

Hey Krish, all those Salmon were in Saltwater that morning and came up the river with the tide push. Lorrie, still working on best time for another BBQ since Gina is traveling China for most of September now.

Yesterday out on the Snohomish River with Jeff (DolphinLvr) and another 40-50 fish day (great pre-Coho run workout). Catch record is now full and so will the Smoker be tomorrow.

What are those square markings?

hey Mike, they are from the ribs inside of my ice chest. I guess I could have arranged the fish to have the pretty side facing camera huh? I bleed them quick then put em on ice ASAP (all my fish, especially Pink Salmon though)

Cheers, Todd

OK, with all this fun & hard work... gotta show em off. Sliced-n-diced up 17 Pink Salmon that I had already filleted & bagged saving up enough to fill the Smokers.

Will be smokin fish all day tomorrow Cheers, Todd

UMMMMMMM YUMMY and we BOTH love smoked salmon :D

Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk

I tried smokin salmon once. I had a real problem with keeping it lit.
If you keep catching at this rate you are going to need a bigger deep freeze.
Or a large BBQ party. lol

Yea Dave, BOTH. Have 4 Smokers running at the moment and still enough brined fish to fill 1-2more (tomorrow I guess) Originally we were going to host a big Seafood BBQ at our cabin this weekend but Gina ended up having to travel China for most of this month so now thinking on end of month or first of next. depending on weather could still have over on the Peninsula or up here ??? I'll have plenty of Salmon, Dungeness Crab, Steamer Clams and veggies from our garden to feed a small Army. Get your fishing license so I can take you out on the Snohomish, the Silvers (Coho) should be here in a big way in the next couple of weeks. 3 adult a day limit this year on Coho and have been averaging about 10-12 lbs last few years. I've got all the gear, you just need a catch record/license and a cooler to bring fish home in.

Cheers, Todd

Up til 12:30am to finish smoking the fish, turned out very well if I do say so myself. Cooled down overnight and unloading this morning mmmmm......

Cheers, Todd

P.S. Duane, I didn't forget about you & Robin and you can grab a bag when you get back the extra smoker I borrowed

My Brine recipe if anyones interested: I only brine for 8-10 hrs for fish less than 15lbs and no more than 12 hours on larger fish or to strong

1/2 cup Brown Sugar
1/4 cup non-iodized salt
2 cups Soy Sauce
2 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
1/2 tsp Tobasco Sauce
1 cup ro/di water (of course)
1/2 tsp Onion Powder
1/2 tsp Garlic Powder (or 2-3 cloves finely minced/grated)
1/2 tsp Black or White Pepper
1/4 tsp Paprika
1/4 tsp Chili Powder
1 cup Dry Reisling

Smoking: 2 panfulls of Alder chips followed by 2 panfulls of Apple chips. about 1 hour 15 min each then continue to heat for remainder of time approx 10-12 hrs
This will do approx 4-5 fish, I did a triple batch + for these 17 fish.

Cheers, Todd
