So there is no rock. No need because rock isn't a filter in Coldwater. Foam is pretty porous but biofiltration in Coldwater only compliments. You have to focus on mechanical and chemical filtration. So I'm the pic you can see that there are two chambers. One is the overflow where the mechanical and chemical(chemipure elite) filtration will be. That flows into the return chamber and chiller is. Please don't mind the mess:p

I wired up the dimable control box last night. I really hope I did it right. But now i need to attach the leds to the heatsink and do some soldering. Man, soldering this stuff makes me think I need three hands. But its getting done soon. Sand is going in this weekend. I already moved a couple aggregating nems that my white spotted rose had been battling for 2-3 months. Well the rose got tired and started to eat the largest while stinging the crap out of the other one. So now the little guys are in time out. They started it lol!

Very COOL Nano-build Paul, will have to get over to check out your Cold-water systems one of these days.

Cheers, Todd

Your welcome to come by anytime Todd. I'm usually available mornings during the week. But this tank won't be here for long. Once it's stocked and the light works I'll have it fully up and running for a week to work out the bugs. This tank maintains temp pretty good but has never been below 58 degrees so 58-62 is the average range so far. But my living room is usually pretty warm due to the lobster tank chiller.

The best I got mine was like 57.8F :D

But thats really all you need for just about anything you'd want in a coldwater tank, unless you wanted some crazy arctic fish or super deep water stuff lol.

Intertidal animals are just peachy keen in 58-62 which is what I was going for with mine.

But these tanks are well worth the price. I'm working on a cost efficient tumbler/kreisel tank for coldwater jellyfish now using this same chiller and some re-purposed small acrylic tanks ;) If you want any jellies you can come out with us any one of the nights you are down.

We can get you some beach sand when you are down here, anything in particular you wanna collect or want us to keep an eye out for?

Your absolutely right about that! I love this little tank. I need to locate a white spotted rose. Like the one in my default pic. Mine tried eating the two aggregating nems. Well after I put the aggs in time out and left for work, it went on a walkabout and was eaten by my largest painted anemone:target: GRRRRRR! Im just a bit upset can you tell. Anyway I haven't seen one intertidaly except that one, so I'm not holding out hope. But as always if i could find a nice stubby squid or ruby... Enough wishlist stuff. I'll be looking for purple urchins. One nano sized one for this tank. Some cool tube worms maybe, nano greens, proliferating nems, and anything I don't already have.

The tides this weekend will be your best bet for finding one while tidepooling for sure. I wouldn't mind finding a couple too ;)

We will definitely be on the hunt for octopus, trying to find 2 GPO's to fill some orders, but any rubescens we find are yours :D Urchins for sure, tube worms for sure, nano greens for sure, proliferating nems (Epiactis prolifera) I have yet to find intertidally down here. But there will be a lot of new area exposed, which allows us to snorkel and freedive a lot more areas along the rocky shores much easier (and safer) so we should find a lot of new stuff :)

Well now snorkeling and diving.... Hmmm I'm thinking I should bring fins mask and snorkel:) I can't wait to find out what awaits in the deep. Oh and I forgot about a cool gunnel.

I'm gonna be looking for saddle backs also for my nano :) Bring the snorkel gear if you got it, let me know if you need to borrow a 7mm wetsuit, we got a couple spares.

Yep I'll need to borrow one. The last time I went snorkeling with my chest waders.... Yeah that didn't work.

Well look who decided to show up!

The white spotted rose was in the large painted for two daysand this morning began to slowly ouch it's way outi saw this and pinched it hard and was yanking it out it took a bit but I got it done. So as you can see I have it in the nano to recover a bit before it goes back into the tank o death! Lol I'm constantly amazed at the toughness Coldwater critters show.

Haha wait till it's stocked with everything. I'm on the Oregon coast collecting some stunning pieces:)

Just a quick update. Tonight will be the big update. But here are some teaser pics of some of the critters I collected in Oregon this weekend.

So I promised an larger update and here it is. So I collected a few items this weekend. So I took my daughter down to the Oregon coast and we met up with the guys at coldwater marine aquatics. It was a great weekend were we saw some awesome bio diversity and found some great specimens. In between collecting we hit the OSU Hatfield marine center. It had great coldwater exhibits and lots of interactive exhibits for Haydyn to entertain herself.
We found lots of nano stuff that was colorful and healthy. There is a 1/4' tide pool sculpin and a lime green sculpin. Hey are full to watch these tiny guys scoot around. A video wont be far away:)

Here is a different view.

A macro of the mini plumous colony and a red beadlet and aqua green beadlet, and some painted anemones

Tiny tiny california cucumber. juvenile color pattern. also note the yellow social tunicate in the middle.

more to come:)
