i think its really cool they have a whale shark but still think that a creatuer of that magnituded deserves to be in the ocean theres not many left in the wild and having one die in captivitie is hell bad
dose anyone know how old or how long the shark is

i hope to go diving with whale sharks in march when i vist coral bay they are local to there certain times of the year seeing a whale shark in the wild we be so much more of a thrill then seeing it in a public aquarium

just my 2cents

They're said to get to 45 feet, I believe. These were/is both around 20 feet, if I recall correctly. If it's any consolation, I think this is the largest tank in the world. It wasn't possible to see the back wall from the front, it was so far back. I'd love to find actual dimensions of the tank, I think we'd be shocked.

However, I also understand... it's still a cage.

And thanks, Krish! I had so much fun there.

like i thinks it would be great to see them in captivitve and for them to be "happy" but in a year one of those fish swims from down near the antarctic to hawaii which is a pretty long way they follow the leuiwan current which run along the western coast of australia as i said before i hope to dive with them in the wild as i dont think i could get to that place also the lines in the pics ive seen are so long

That would be my dream to have a tank big enough I would have to have a tank to dive with my fish. Nice pics man. I can't wait to go!!

The Georgia Aquarium has 4 whale sharks. All doing well as of Saturday. They had a Beluga whale die in the last few weeks, but it had been battling a bone disorder since before they received it. The aquarium vets were trying to heal and rehabilitate the Beluga, but it stopped eating so they euthenized it.

My apologies. i was there 2 weekends ago, evidently the day before one of the whale sharks died. So I guess they only have 3 now. I will be interested to see what the cause of death was.

On a side note: What a great job to have. An aquarist that works on a 6.2 million gallon system. If you get a chance, go on the behind the scenes tour and check out the pumps and filtration. It is absolutely amazing! They definitely have some cool toys up there.
