Yesterday, I removed and sold my CL. Now my tank is quieter than I imagined a reef could be. Well, I ultimately need more flow but thats not why I'm posting. This morning my dog woke me at 2:30 and I couldnt fall back to sleep. At 3:30 I gave up and got out of bed for my wifes sake. As I quietly sat in the livingroom in the dark I realized the my tank is so quiet the second hand on the clock is the loudest thing in the room. Until the vortech ramps up to full speed and then it matches the second hand. The MJ mod is now the loudest pump on the tank and when the wave maker timer kicks it on it resonates through the wall of the house.
Really vortechs aren't that loud, Ive never noticed the MP40 on Reed's tank before and I dont feel like his sump is overly loud by any means. Im just one of those people who cant mentally handle certain background noises and the whirring mechanincal sound of the Vortechs happens to be one of those noises.
I love the flow and undertow that the vortechs produce and I like how, if placed right, they dont take up much room in the tank at all since half is on the outside.
Reed hit the nail on the head in my case. The side viewing panel is as important to me as the front of my tank and a Vortech would need to be close to the middle of it to perform well in my tank. My new tunze's will be here Monday.
