Hey I have a huge bloom of corraline red/purple algae and it grew over a period of a day and it is on every rock and my power head, they still hate plastic tubes! they won't go there, but everywhere else is covered. Just finished watching a meteor streak across the sky.

That is probable not coralline algae, it is probably red slime algae. It can grow very fast like that and has the same shade of the coralline algae some times. Can you get a picture of it?

yep I will take it this afternoon, got to go walk to my first class and will post when able. It is hard, grows in spots then it won't grow for a while, about a month or three. Somewhat bubbly on the top, just looks that way.

Grew rapidly and bubbly on top sounds like cyano to me. Definately not coraline

How's it going? Definitely cyano, Take a turkey baster and blow as much as you can off the rocks and get it in the water then while it is floating around in the water, do a good water change. When it happened to me last year, it was because a new small firefish I bought died and was behind all the rockwork and I couldn't get it. After about 3 water changes 8 or 9 days apart,it was gone. Good luck, Brian

certain cyano can kill ( wish their was a word for humans that started with a c) humans.

at mcarthur beach state park they had a amjor bloom of the stuff, and had to go in their scrubbing. big tank. the managers made everyone where masks.

glad i could help ease your mind. lol.

it looks like this
the thing is mine had lesions on the surface that really were from the shape of the rock, they feel calcium-y, it probably was about 3 days for a spot on my power head to be colonized and I never looked there recently.

If it isn't able to be easily brushed off or blown off the surface, then maybe it is coraline. The bubbles threw me. Maybe the bubbles aren't a result of cyano bacteria but rather from possibly a powerhead. It's hard to tell without a good big picture. If it's coraline that is a good thing. My tank has loads of it. It looks nice and makes it harder for the bad algae to take hold. Take a good, closeup shot and post it.
