We have an acrylic 110 tall that we'll be upgrading to as our display. The former owner had a hole in the center in the bottom that he used for a canister. We want to plug it and are wondering what the best, reefsafe acrylic adhesive for the task.

Any advice?:becky:

Weldon works wonders and is what almost all acrylic tanks are assembled with in the first place. You can use #3 or #4 with an acrylic patch over the hole. The solvent is water thin so it wicks or capilates between the two pieces. Cut a piece of acrylic a little larger than the hole, place it over the hole and using a needle applicator simply squirt some weldon all the way around the piece. Let it sit for 30-60 seconds so the solvent can soften the acrylic a bit and then put some weight on it. Not too much though. You just want to press the pieces firmly together and leave it for a few hours. You can also use weldon #16. It's more like a model glue consistency. This you would just apply the cement/solvent to either the patch or around the hole on the bottom of the tank and then set the patch over the hole, again giving it a little weight to press the two together. Should be good to go once it dries. HTH

I like Weldon 16 I have made a few patches with it on my sump, a little viewing box, and I glued a leaky seam on an acrylic aquarium and it's still leak free in my bedroom. I also found it works way better than super glue on just about any plastic material.

i also like weldon #16. or you can just put a bulkhead in it with a plug or ball valve. or even better use it for a closed loop. there is a few idea's for ya.

Weldon #3 or #4 can be bought at Tapp Plastics only. Weldon 16 can be found ay Mclendons Hardware. Eric (eww) hit the procedure on the head.
IMO the # 16 will be easier for the first time DIYer.

i did not know that weldon 16 is available at McLendon? can you tell me which department? thanks.

I hate that Tap Plastics is so far north! haha. Good store thou. Went up there and bought some acrylic and their in house acrylic cement the other day.
