The jawfish has been in my tank for almost 2 months happy as a clam. Added 2 small clowns today in hopes they will keep him away from the anenome. Fed shortly after introducing the new clowns. He is just spitting out the food back at me.

Should i be alarmed or is this hunger strike often seen after adding roomates?

Maybe this is a protest of adding the clowns???

:D

On a serious note, since the scenery has changed, it might take a day or two for the jawfish to acclimiate (or accept) the clownfish to the tank.

I wouldnt worry yet, just keep a eye on it.

Hahaha cookie monster (our blue spot jaw) is skittish as hell. But now he's just angry. I've never seen him dig so much. Haha he keeps spitting sand at the poor clowns. Its really cute I love him so.

I think he's stocking up on food and ammunition for the revolution.

Hey erick how are them damsels? Kinda miss him

Hay what kind of sand did you put in your tank for the Jaw fish? I’ve been vacuuming out all the gravel out of my tank because I want a change of scenery and always thought I mite like one.

Actually one of them died a week or so ago. Don’t know what happened. Both were eating fine and one morning one was head first in the return for the filter. The other is fine, fat, and active. I wanted a pair but I think they may have both been the same sex. That could have been the problem. They definitely didn’t like each other. I should have gotten all 3 they had at the store better chances to get a pair. Oh well.

I have 20lbs of fine sand and then 20lbs of crushed coral and then i made 3lbs of LR into rubble which he has used all of to create his home under a rock. He has been very happy other than getting pissy cause i added the clowns.

If i did it again id probably just buy a pearly jawfish because i rarely see more than the head anyways

He did eat last night but he doesnt look very happy still. Im sure its going to take some time for him to get acclimated to the clowns. Which are a whole other problem alltogether. It appears that i really need a damn quarantine tank. And i need to use it. The small clown has what appears to be ich. So great, its in my system now.

Well good news and bad news. The clown fish seems to have gotten over his ich if it was ich. Neither of the clowns or the blue dot shot any spots.

Bad news. Yesterday the blue dot moved from his home of 2 months to a spot that he can't be too happy in. This morning he left that spot and I found him sitting on a rock not attempting to hide. Obviously I'm worried. I have not once seen the clowns give him any trouble. They seem to ignore him.

If he doesn't eat when I get home and try and feed I'm going to catch the clownfish and hop that he can be nursed back to a stress free hapiness. Gues I just can't have anything in there with him. Don't die cookie monster I love you

Well, i got home and the jawfish reluctantly ate when i put trhe baster near him. He will not however move from this rock. heres a pic

ok, now the pic is displayed. nice candy cane, but I'm not seeing the jawfish..where is it in relation to the candy cane?

Ya you can only see the body part of the fish is down and to the right a little. On my monitor it looks mustard green body with emerald green spots.

Hay what size tank was that again?
I’m surprised that the jaw sees the clowns as a threat but like Lee said to me once, we always try to put into human terms what the fish are doing because that’s what we know and in reality even a fin gesture or look from one fish to another can also be signs of aggressive behavior but we just cant pick up on it. Sometimes just because the fish is there is enough.

its a 29 gal. The clowns are both smaller than him and have honestly been hiding more or less. Tests are good, altough i just noticed my ph is a little low

hes back to his old burrow!!! but he is barely eating and he looks a bit tattered. That being said hes in there digging and such which makes me feel better than chilling on a rock

I realize im talking to myself here, but he has stayed in his original; burrow all day. However, he looks like he is going to try and jump which he has never done. keeps looking up and hovering nervously over his burrow. Id really like to get these clowns out but theyre not eating food just catch them in the back eating pods.

Im scared if i pull apart the rockwork ill damage his burrow and stress him more
