Just received these today!! They were shipped overnight, but arrived pretty cold. I was a bit worried about them. I also noticed that a small group of them were a bit loose from the rock. Afraid of losing them in my tank, I removed that group and glued them to a piece of tile. They've just started to open so I figured I'd take a couple quick pics. In total, I got about 12-15 polyps. WooHoo!!! Now let's all keep our fingers crossed that they don't melt away. These are one of the Zoanthids that's notorious for doing just that. Sorry about the glob of superglue in the pic...lol.

Cool and you're bringing them to the SRS frag swap right, lol.? So the african blue hornets don't have the same alteration in colors on the skirts and the purple hornets do?

The Blue Hornets and Purple Hornets are very similar. In fact, some say it's just a color morph caused by different lighting. I'm not even sure if I'd call mine blue or purple...lol. The alternating color of the skirts is on the blue hornets too. It might not be showing up very well in my picture. It's not that each skirt ummm....tentacle, is an alternating color. It's that each tentacles has alternating color, blue/green or purple/green, on it. The "skirt tentacles" of mine start blue at the tip, have a green strip, and then return to blue.

Oh and Nope, they won't be going to the SRS Frag swap just yet...lol.

Fatboy, yes they are.

Actually, I guess it depends on which Purple Hornets you look at, Brandy. Now that you mention it, some PHs that I've seen do have an alternating skirt, with the tentacles alternating green/purple, with the actual tentacles being a different color than the one next to it. Other PHs, seem to alternate colors on the actual tentacle.

I read that the alternating green/purple skirt purple hornets are the real deal while the ones with both colors on the same tentacle are look a likes. They're both cool though.

That could very well be. There's soooo many of these being traded right now that it's really hard to tell. I believe they're also known as Blue Steele, or something similar...lol. I know I sure didn't pay the price of the "Real Deals." LOL

One of these days, one of us will have to pay that price and then compare them...lol. Not It!!

I think the "Real Deal" vs. "look-a-like," might actually be where the "Blue Hornets" came into the picture. They look an awful lot like the Purple Hornets, but not quite enough like them to be truly called Purple Hornets...so they changed a word...lol.

Purple Hornets were selling for $300 per polyp not very long ago!! YIKES!!

Here's a good article on the original Purple Hornets.

Extreme Coral has been selling "African Blue Hornets" for $150-$300 depending on the size of the colony and depending on the day...lol. For instance, today, they have a 4"X4" colony for $300. A week ago, they had a larger colony for $185.00. They were the same exact zoanthid...lol.

They might have had to pay more for shipping on the $300 or the demands warranted the price increase I would guess. I saw those for sell on RC. Very nice indeed. Once I get tired of collecting my SPS and LPS and have a dedicated tank for zoa's I will definatley getting some of those.

yeah i saw those too . thats the ones im reffering too. he was only selling them in order of emails he recieved. he could barely get them in his tank b4 they were gone. they sure go through a lot of corals over there at XC. if i was in the business i would copy their sales approach. i must get 2-3 emails from them a week about the new corals they are putting up for sale.

I agree, they are sweet looking. In fact I was so caught up in the moment I just ordered some myself.:)

I really like them too. My first 2 frags melted, 3rd one still on frag rack. Anyone knows where they are most happy?
