I want to think of air bubble skimming protiens, I want to think of air bubbles collecting CO2 and bursting it at water surface. I see no way for proteins to be trapped. Ed :)

Ed,
If you want to see bubbles collecting proteins and stuff, come and check out my LRCT. The excess amount of bubbles coming off the skimmer has caused a large amount of foam on the top of the water and this foam looks like the crap you see washed up along the sea shore.

P.S. The LRCT is a Live Rock Curing Tank.

my skimmer is in the sump but it is seperated from the pump with a glass wall and a sponge where the water goes out to the pump chamber. as for the tornado or bath tub effect a few bio balls around the pump suction eliminates that effect. there is no sudden surges.

yes , ccould it be air leaking in from the returns. anything inside of the overflows is not glued in case of having to remove them for some reason later.

i filled my sump up more so it now is over the glass partition. this has worked in reducing the bubble output.
